Mayor Asks Sen. Hatch to Apologize

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Mayor Rocky Anderson says Sen. Orrin Hatch should apologize for calling Monday's Bush protesters "nutcakes."

Hatch said, "If any apology must be given, it should come from Mayor Anderson to the president and Mrs. Bush."

Speaking with KSL-TV Monday about the protest, Hatch said, "You're always going to have nutcakes out there, no matter what you do."

The protest, which primarily was against the Iraq war, was held in Pioneer Park, while President George W. Bush addressed the Veterans of Foreign Wars national convention at the Salt Palace.

2. Republican contempt for the American people.
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 09:57 AM by Old and In the Way
If there is anyone a litle nutcakey, it's King George the Dimmer who lied to the American people to start this war. 1800 Americans have died so far for his lies. Who are the nutcake's Orrin? More and more, they seem to have an (R) behind their name.

Liars and Name-callers deserve all the apologies, ya know.

Truth-tellers deserve nothing but a bad wrap.

11. Here's your apology, Orrin
I'm very, very sorry that the president lied us into a quagmire, wasting our military, our Treasury, our national prestige, and our national honor. I wish I didn't take Christianity as seriously as I do, because it has crossed my mind on more than one occasion that the criminally irresponsible dunderhead squatting in the White House should be taken out. To a really bad restaurant. And stuck with the tab.

10. Last I checked
58% of the people disagree with the way Bush is handling the war. Does that mean the majority of us are "nutcakes?" Oh, I see, only the ones with enough balls to stand up with their opinions are the nutcakes.

15. As though he represents the majority!
It is interesting that despite the fact that a majority of the population thinks the war was a mistake, right wing ideologues continue to speak as though only a handful of nutcases oppose the war.

Naturally, in this era when up is down, and white is black, partisan attempts to marginalize the majority viewpoint on the war are reported straight-up and uncritically by news media.

In all fairness, TV reporters should at least use a laugh track when reporting these kind of statements.

My e-mail:

Dear Mr. Hatch,

I am afraid that I agree with Rocky Anderson, the honorable Mayor of Salt Lake City. Calling the voting public and your constituents names is childish and insulting. The citizens of your state and indeed the country deserve an apology.

Your lack of respect and disdain for the outspoken and independent thinkers among the voting public mirrors the standard GOP line and comes through loud and clear.

19. Speaking of Ms Bush
I'm sure you've all heard of this but have you heard her lies about it?

Laura Welch Bush, driving east on Farm Road 868, was approaching the
only highway in town on a clear night with a bright moon. She lived
only a couple of miles away and had been through this particular
intersection hundreds of times in the years her family had lived in
Midland, Texas.

On her left Laura Bush could see her boyfriend's car approaching the
intersection for the entire time he turned off of Solomon Lane, where
he lived, and onto the highway. She knew it was her boyfriend's car
driving south, because of the unique headlight configuration of his
1962 Corvair Sedan.

20. People Hatch called "nutcakes".
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 12:15 PM by Sean Reynolds
Several mothers who lost their sons in Iraq.
A representative of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City.
A representative of the United Methodists.
Many Korean, Vietnam and World War II Vets.
Children.
Grandparents.
Mothers.
Fathers.

So Hatch believes its disrespectful to protest Bush, but it's a-okay to call Korean, Vietnam and World War II vets NUTCAKE? To call a represenative of the Catholic Diocese a NUTCAKE?

DOES THIS MAN HAVE NO SHAME?

30. Hatch is just embarrassed and pissed that instead of rose petals...
and palm fronds, Bush was greeted with protest signs and obscene gestures. I'm sure he thought that Utah would be a safe haven for the petulant Pres. Too bad Rocky spoiled the delusion. I couldn't be more proud.
