Minister of Hate (Fred Phelps) to "Hunt Down" Swedish King
Published: 25th August 2005 15:32 CET

Minister of hate to "hunt down" Swedish king

The fanatical American Baptist minister, Fred Phelps, is on his way to Sweden.
"We'll hunt down your king," he said ominously to Expressen. "It doesn't make any difference where he tries to hide."

Phelps' hatred of the royal family and all things Swedish is linked directly to his equally virulent hatred of homosexuals. He praises homophobic crimes, including murder. When controversial Swedish minister, Åke Green, was convicted of inciting hatred of homosexuals following an anti-gay sermon, Phelps saw red and turned his attention to Sweden.

"You're doomed to spend eternity in hell," he continued. "All you Swedes and your Swedish king and his family."

The minister and twenty members of his congregation from the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, are planning to come to Sweden at the beginning of September. They are bringing plenty of placards in order to spread their message that Sweden is the cradle of all evil and that the king rules a nation of sodomites.

<>

Phelps claims that Sweden deserved to suffer in the new year tsunami catastrophe in southern Asia and has designed a monument to 'celebrate' the deaths of over 500 Swedes in Thailand.

64. The man and his offspring clearly have the 'crazy' gene
The effect of too much inbreeding.

They should all be locked up or sterilized to prevent more intra-family breeding.

Their comments are just too bizarre-- I question whether a person with even a shred of sanity could come up with such stuff.

Either the crazy gene, or a brain infection-- tertiary syphilis comes to mind!

Sort of like offense is the best defence? He's attacking a normal, albeit minority segment of the population to draw attention away from his own perverted nature - tarring his enemies with his own brush?

His biblical scholarship is more than a little suspect. II Peter 2:12 is not in the least about homosexuality (even though a previous verse mentions Sodom and Gomorrah in passing, and I don't intend to explain that Sodom & Gomorrah aren't about homosexuality, either). And the verse from Romans 9:13 ("Even as it is written, Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated") has even less to do with homosexuality. Did this guy get ordained at Chuck E. Cheese?

Let's just say that Fred Phelps is no ordinary fundamentalist minister, not even of the "religious right" variety. Rather, he's a psychopath who has created a god in his own image.

If you have a strong enough stomach, a feature story on him and his family/abuse victims can be found here.

If not, here's a summary from another site:

On Phelps:
He's a lunatic, a sadist, a wife/child beater, and all-around not-so-nice kind of guy. Jon Michael Bell, a Kansas journalist (where, in Topeka, Phelps and his family maintain their "compound"... note: be wary of anyone who lives in a "compound") did an expose on Phelps that almost didn't get published. It took a lawsuit by Bell, against his employer, to get the story inserted into the public record. For those interested, it can be accessed here (http://www.godhatesfundies.com/misc/ath/).

In it, Bell documents the abuse Phelps inflicted upon his thirteen children, whom he publicly beat as early as ten months old, and continued to beat them throughout their young lives with the handle of a mattock, which is a sort of like a ploughshare or large hoe that's heavier than a baseball bat. He drove his eldest son's high school sweetheart, Debbie Valgos, to suicide (today that same son, Fred Jr., who at seventeen ran away from home to elope with Valgos but was caught, can't quite recall who she is). Phelps is a textbook case of narcissism taken to an unimaginable extreme. The man doesn't need to be beaten, he needs a thorazine drip and a padded cell. To see him as anything higher than a severely deranged psychopath is giving him far more credit than he's due.

By far the most frightening aspect of the WBC (Westboro Baptist Church) is that, at every protest, you usually see children ranging anywhere from five to fifteen years old waving around the picket signs alongside the "adults". Many of these kids being Phelps's grandchildren, one can easily assume given the cyclical nature of child abuse that they too are growing up with the same cruelty and barbarism that was inflicted on their parents.

hatching a plot.

Before his trip, send Phelps some coupons to a tanning salon , hopefully taking the bait, and afterwords gets on the plane to Hethrow. But as a added measure also send a guest along for the flight. As his little entourage is embarking off the plane, and at the opportune time, Nathan Lane walks-up behind Mr. Phelps, and goes BOOOOO!!!!. In his disgust and shock, he bolts getting the expected treatment from the local law enforcement(guy with not white enough complexion, running with coat). In the aftermath, a win-win situation, one less asshole on the planet, and the london police dump their procedure after realizing they inadvertently shot a white guy.

All respect to Mr. Lane. Any and all complaints can be sent to my In-Box.

Fred Phelps' 'Swedish King Is Gay' Tirade
by Malcolm Thornberry 365Gay.com European Bureau Chief
Posted: August 24, 2005 12:01 am ET

<snip>

Phelps' site calls Sweden "a land of sodomy, bestiality, and incest", and goes on to say: "The King looks like an anal-copulator, & his grinning kids look slutty & gay."

Under pictures of the royals, the site says: "You jackass Swedes just don't get it. Once you have laws to chill Bible preaching, we don't give a rat's tutu whatever else you do or say. You are drippings from the Devil's own penis - a veritable sperm bank for Satan's queers."

Reports linking Vice President Al Gore with notorious anti-gay activist Fred Phelps, Jr., and the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas were confirmed with the release of photographs showing Gore at a fundraiser at the home of Fred Phelps, Jr., who told the Conservative News Service on October 16 that he served as a Gore delegate on the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta in 1988.

Gore, who was quoted by the Nashville Tennessean in 1984 saying homosexuality is not "an acceptable alternative that society should affirm" and said in his 1984 U.S. Senate race that he would not accept money from gay rights organizations and that he opposed a "gay bill of rights," reportedly sought the support of the Phelps family in his 1988 presidential campaign, and invited the Phelps' to the Clinton-Gore inaugurations of January 1993 and January 1997.

27. I think that Sweden should prevent their entry
by declaring them all personna non gratia, man if they can enter Sweden threating the king! Could they enter the U$ threatening the president? Hell, it used to be Swedes could visit the U$ on their passport without a visa and now if they don't have a digital passport, they have to get a visa. Some relatives are coming to visit in September, I hope they get here!

Then they can arrest him and his family for making threats against the Royal Family.

I don't really think that the U.S. government will be in a great hurry to get him and his nutty family released into their custody.

By the way what is the punishment for making a threat against the Swedish Royal Family?

28. This lunatic should be padlocked in his basement church

The church is located in the basement of his home, which is located inside of a block-wide fenced compound, the other houses in which are occupied by nine of his thirteen children.

In 1994, a reporter working for Stauffer Communications, Inc., filed a lawsuit about ownership of a book he had been researching for them, which details the life and activities of Phelps. Because the text of the book was entered as Exhibit A, the text entered into public domain. A link to one source of the text of this book is included below.

The distributed text describes Phelps as a ferocious child-abuser and wife-beater and proposes that he was instrumental in the death of his son Fred Phelps Jr.'s lover/possible first wife, a 17-year old girl named Debbie Valgos. Most of these claims are supported by two of Phelps' sons and one of his daughters, but are denied by their other siblings, who are not estranged from Phelps.

48. Heh, I think so.
I'm a citizen of Sweden, and I can personally say that the Swedish royal family is actually one of the better monarchies. The king doesn't really say that much, he's rather quiet and subdued. His family is the same. They work quietly, in the background.

Notice, this family is never in the Tabloids, unlike the British royal family, which is in the Daily Tattler or the Daily Globe all the time. Prince Charles new shenanigans have sold a lot of rags.

For the life of me, I can't understand this man's maniacal obsession with Carl Gustav. And you're right: these guys are no whimps.

They'll deal with him. LOL

93. And I'm pretty sure the Swedes will deal with him too.
There's a much lower wingnut to normal ratio in the population in the Scandinavian countries, so I'm pretty sure he'll be laughed out of his hotel, out of the bus, on the street - wherever ordinary Swedes may encounter him and his posse with their signs, they'll react like decent, normal people. They'll dismiss him as the lunatic he is.

And I think there's a greater chance that he'll form an acquaintance with the wonderful Swedish welfare system rather than with Swedish jails - they'll put him in a psychiatric hospital rather than in a jail cell - and to no cost to him! He'll be frothing at the mouth about communism. LOL

Lunatic pastor goes to Sweden
Fred Philps, hateful pastor from Westboro Baptist Church, will come to Sweden in September with 20 of his followers (relatives). His mission is to stalk the Swedish King.

Philps is a man who hates everything. He has sites with names like godhatessweden, godhatesamerica and gothatescanada. He is happy whenever a US soldier is killed in Iraq, his followers demonstrate on the soldiers' funerals, he calls Queen Elizabeth Queen of Fags et cetera.

He also hates the Swedish Royal Family and has published disparaging (to say the least) comments about them on his site. The RF has asked lawyers to investigate if his site can be stopped, and that is probably why he now comes to Sweden to persue the King.

"We will chase your king. It doesn't matter where he tries to hide", Phelps says.

He will also raise a monument in order to celebrate (!) that many Swedes were killed by the tsunami!

are really GOOD friends. They can both take over the world through assassinations and be the new king and QUEEN. King Chimp will attend the FABULOUS event. Reverend Moon will preform the service, and Jesus will come back just for the party. Amen

Honestly when someone protests this much about homosexuality or anything else for that matter it usually means it hit close to home. This guy is a self hating closet gay. IMHO

Hey Phelps, it's okay to be gay, it's not okay to be you though.

It must be almost 3 years ago that Ari Fleischer suggested that a single bullet would eliminate Saddam Hussein, cheaper than a war. A few days ago, it was Pat Robertson calling for the assassination of Hugo Chavez, again cheaper than a war. Now, Fred Phelps.

There is obviously too much violence in our culture.

He pretty much has managed to piss off the whole population:

1. Tsunami disaster is still fresh in the minds of the population. Many know someone who died, and the pictures of the families wiped out are not forgotten,

2. The royals have big supporters in groups far more RW than Freeper Phelps and they will be looking forward to his visit,

3. The hate spewed about gays will not only upset the gay community, but also the left who deeply sympathizes with their struggle for equal rights.

58. Just HAVE to reply on this topic...

I'm a Swede myself (invited to DU a couple of months ago by my good internet friend AlienGirl). Haven't posted contributions much (just one or two at the Lounge), but now I can't resist the temptation to throw in some remarks about Phelps...

First and foremost: Besides not being a monarchist myself, I would LOVE the sight of Phelps and his cohorts (given that our secret police would be dumb enough to actually let them slip through - not that it would surprise me: It's infamous for harassing leftists and asylum seekers, and it haven't ONCE cought a spy, be it a foreigner or a domestic on, working for some foreign nation) being given a hearty "welcome" from a crowd of weightlifting 200 pound Swedish leather dykes on bikes roughing himn up a bit and chewing him a new asshole!

Seriously though: I checked up the guy somewhat on the wikipedia, and he seem to have some serious mental problems, most likely aggrivated by drug and alcohol abuse. Seems like the right place for him it a padded cell for the rest of his life, where he can't harm others or himeself... ;-)

Last thing: Don't worry too much about Swedes in general having the impression of USA being composed of whackos like Phelps only! The more informed of us are very well aware of the fact that the US is a huge fraction of a continent populated by some 300 million people - which means even a small percentage of nuts makes up a lot countered in absolute numbers. I'm convinced the overhelming majority of you are commmon sense folks, just as here in Sweden (yes, we have our whackos and ring wingnuts here as well - but they aren't - yet - as vocal as yours, for a lot of reasons - mostly historical ones).

Nuff said, at least for this time...

Regards, Star Rover

...that would make me feel, shall we say, "relieved."

110. More on Bush assassination of Olaf Palme
Under the orders of Bush, Ilopango Airport had been set up in early 1985 as a Contra supply base by "ex" CIA agent Felix Rodriguez, with whom Bush coordinated his drug-running activities. When the United States Drug Enforcement Administration Representative in Nicaragua, Celerino Castillo, caught up with Bush on January 14, 1986, he confronted him as follows: "I met George Bush," said Castillo, "at a cocktail party in Guatemala city. It was at the ambassador's residence. He came up to me, and asked me what my job description was as a DEA agent in Guatemala. I told him that I was an agent conducting international narcotics investigations, and I told him there was something funny going on at Ilopango Airport. As soon as I said that, he shook my hand, he smiled for the cameraman, and then just walked away from me without saying a word. I knew then that he knew what I was talking about."

Celerino Castillo survived the confrontation, but many others who knew about Bush's covert operations, which went far beyond Ibero America, were not so fortunate. Among the victims were DEA agent Enrique Camarena, CIA agent Barry Seal, French General Rene Audran, German State Governor Uwe Barshel, Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Israeli intelligence agent Amiram Nir, Canadian weapons manufacturer Gerald Bull, Belgian government minister Andre Cools, and Swedish Prime Minister Olaf Palme.

Olaf Palme, for example, found himself in an untenable position as the chief enforcer of the United Nations arms embargo on Iran and Iraq at the same time he was privy to Bush's covert weapons trafficking to Iran. His assassination followed a raid on the offices of Swedish arms broker Karl-Erik Schmitz, where documents seized by Swedish Customs officials detailed the activities of a global arms and munitions cartel with George Bush at the center. Apparently, Olaf Palme knew too much. In a desperate attempt to cover up the assassination, the mainstream media blamed Lyndon LaRouche.

Nonetheless, it soon emerged in a South African courtroom, where a Colonel Eugene de Kock was on trial for a series of apartheid-era assassinations, that one Craig Williamson was responsible for the Olaf Palme hit. Williamson was the director of Giovanni Ricci's international weapons trading company, GMR. Together with one James Anthony White, who was later named as the actual assassin of Palme, Ricci and Williamson ran an operation in South Africa known as Longreach, which spied on anti-apartheid activists, and smuggled weapons into South Africa through George Bush's networks. Moreover, Ricci was a member of the powerful and secretive P-2 lodge in Italy, whose Grand Master was Licio Gelli, a war-time Nazi collaborator. P-2 member Michael Ledeen, who brokered the infamous arms for hostages deal with Iran, was a key consultant to Bush's National Security Council.

120. Wow. I don't doubt this is true.
The Elder Bush, that is. Murdering criminals, every last one of them.

I was in Sweden at the time, too. It's one of those mysteries that has never been solved.....at least, not by the general public.

This is the first I've heard of this.

Why should it surprise me?

115. Phelps is, I suspect, a closet-case...
...afraid that if he ever lets go of this single-minded obsession with persecuting gays, someone will catch on that his issue with them is nothing more than a furious case of self-loathing run amok. Some of his children have cut off all ties with him long ago, pointing to years of his horrific abuse of them and their mother, including beatings, mental torture and death threats.

I had the unique displeasure of being face-to-face with him and his reeking ilk on more than one occasion during my days in NE Kansas, and I can tell you that these cretins are so far beyond lunacy that there is no hope for intervention.

116. Any Way We Can Convince Him There Are Gays In Iraq?
Maybe that the new constitution makes gay marriage legal.

And that a protest is needed, in, say Ramadi or Falluja.

Just a thought . .

129. 21 people / 5 porta-potties = 4 people/porta-potty...
...two to use, two to guard.

That remainder of one, that's Phelps. He doesn't need a porta-potty, since he's terminally full of shit.

(And yes, I'm tying Phelps in with the freepers with their obsession with the Purity of Their Bodily Fluids. Why not? )

130. Hmmmmm. What If, though. Just WHAT IF....
Phelps was using his position (and notoriety) to demonstrate that any hatred of homosexuals was, indeed, an unGodly position and he was EXAGGERATING that "threat" to call attention to his cause? WHAT IF he were TRULY a man of God, willing to BECOME the target of the calnumny of humanity upon himself in order to SAVE humanity from its prejudices and UNITE them AGAINST those prejudices?

...

...

...

*thinking* *thinking* *Jeopardy music in the background* *thinking*

Naaaaah. He's a nutjob.

I know he's nuts already, but if each and every one of us sends him a bag of Swedish Fish in the mail, we might be able to get him to blow a gasket...

I'm going to look for his address, and I'll send my Fish out on Monday.

Anyone else?

140. He won't be allowed to protest long in Sweden.
And even Kansas will beg our President to let him rot in a Swedish prison for threatening the king. As nutty as wingnut-operated Kansas has been, they have never liked Phelps.

(pardon the pun) ;-)

Neocons don't want "the world" telling them what to do (e.g. the UN) BUT it's A-OK for Neocon fundamentalist "Christians" to go around threatening assassination of world leaders.

Isn't MURDER a sin? *sigh* "Judge not, lest ye be judged" and "Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord" are two verses totally lost on these people. Not to mention the plank-speck-in-your eye verse Jesus talked about....
