Iraq's marginalised Sunnis rally for Saddam

Iraq's marginalised Sunnis rally for Saddam

BAQUBA, Iraq (Reuters) - Thousands marched in adoring praise of Iraq's deposed leader Saddam Hussein on Friday, offering a stark display of the loss of power and leadership felt by some of Iraq's Sunni Arabs.

Drawing inspiration from the Baath party strongman, who now languishes in jail awaiting trial, marchers in Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) northeast of Baghdad, danced and chanted his name and condemned plans by the Shi'ite and Kurdish-led government to push through draft constitution to create a federal Iraq.

They accused the Shi'ite Islamists in government of kowtowing to Iran, Iraq's non-Arab neighbor where many Shi'ites sought refuge during Saddam's rule, and the United States, which backs the government with some 140,000 troops.

"Bush, Bush, listen well; We all love Saddam Hussein!" crowds chanted. "We reject the American and Iranian constitution" and "No to a constitution that breaks up Iraq," their placards read.

1. In a few years
radical christian terrorists in America will be marching in support of deposed dictator george bush as they fall ever deeper into a permanent minority status.

Civil War in another country - another bush legacy.

8. Looks like we've found another "pocket of resistence"
von Clausewitz teaches that there is never such a thing as a three-way war, for inevitably two sides agree to gang up on the third.

I have a pretty good idea who the odd man out is going to be in any Iraqi civil war.

9. Once most Shiites see that Bush intends to screw them too
This will get even more interesting. If Shiites thought Saddam and the Sunnis didn't give them their share of the oil wealth, wait until they see what few crumbs PNAC/BFEE have in mind for them. Same goes for the Kurds.

10. "American and Iranian constitution" - hahaha. This is what it will
be called! "The AmerIranian State of Iraq!" I just hope all those Bush fellators love what their dick-less leader bought for them with hundreds of billions of dollars, tens of thousands of dead, crippled and maimed US youths, and hundreds of thousands of dead, crippled and maimed Iraqi civilians, women, and children. I hope that the Bush suckers just love it!

11. Yeah, and what about the fundies?
I seem to remember hearing that some were praising Bush for overthrowing the "evil" Saddam, and paving the way for hordes of Bible waving fundies to swarm in and convert the poor, heathen Iraqis. Somehow, I don't think there's gonna be a whole lot of Bible waving done once Iraq is an Islamic state, with Sharia as the law.

Most of them are too stupid to realize that under Saddam, Christianity was permitted, and it's adherents weren't persecuted. Oh, well...just add this to everything else the idiot has screwed up. The pity is that Bush probably won't have to suffer the consequences of this disaster, and the real suffering will be borne by hundreds of thousands of others. To see him and the rest of his cronies led in shackles, to stand trial at the Hague, would be the dream of a lifetime.

12. if they're going to turn Iraq into Iran...
They'd actually be better off using Iran's constitution. You can take a look at it on one of the "in depth" articles on BBC's website.
