FDA Delays Morning-After Pill Decision
WASHINGTON - The government on Friday put off its long-awaited final decision on whether to sell emergency contraception without a prescription, saying the pill was safe to sell over-the-counter to adults but grappling with how to keep it out of the hands of young teenagers.

The Food and Drug Administration postponed for 60 days a final decision on how to allow nonprescription sales of the morning-after pill called Plan B just to women 17 or older.

...snip...

The drug's maker, Barr Pharmaceuticals, criticized the decision, questioning how the agency could acknowledge that scientific evidence supported nonprescription sales and yet not allow those sales to begin.

...snip...

It was Barr's latest disappointment in the two-year battle to sell Plan B without a prescription. Contraceptive advocates and doctors groups say easier access could halve the nation's 3 million annual unintended pregnancies. FDA's scientists call the pills safe, used by more than 2.4 million Americans and millions more women abroad with few side effects.

10. Jeez no kidding
Do we need kids having kids? These morons probably think that as long as parents don't talk to kid about sex they won't have sex.

One wonders how these parents were capable of reproducing if they believe such,

4. Well I suppose if you are under 17 you won't get pregnant. Or you have to
carry the pregnancy to term.

I get it, if you are under 17 they want to know if the guy was an adult or they want to tell your parents that you are pregnant so they can beat the living crap out of you.

8. Ahh, that's the point...they DO have balls
I'm sure there are women on the FDA and doing a search would probably tell me that but...my initial reaction is that most of the people making the decision will never ever have the biological need for this.

6. I don't see what the problem is with that
Just ask for their driver's licenses like for alcohol, cigarettes, etc.

And if the under-age teenagers want to get around that, they can just ask their friends that are 18 to buy it for them.

12. In their eyes, yes
After all, the slut was spreading her legs, so she got what she deserved.

:sarcasm:

Seriously though, when you're talking about people who define a woman's worth in terms of how many children she has, there is no such thing as too early.
