Authorities Brace For A Perfect Storm In Crawford
The population of Crawford could increase tenfold this weekend as anti-war and pro-Bush protesters stream into town for vigils and rallies.

As many as 7,000 demonstrators could gather in and around the town of about 700 people near the President’s Central Texas ranch, and local authorities spent the day Friday making plans to deal with the crowds and the potential for problems. <snip>

They've already cancelled the chartered bus that was to bring counter-demonstrators to Crawford -- too few signed up.

14. The Best thing that could ever happen
The Shrub is held up on his ranch as real Americans confront each other over Iraq. The Chicken hawk Chicken shit is hiding the best he can........peeking out the windows like a tweaker on crank. GW could of ended this the first week, but I am so glad he was mis advised by Rove, who is on the lamb, to make this a real Texas showdown. Cindy Sheehan vs the haters of the world, this is going to be interesting. GW is a loser all the way around. The leader of the free world is hiding from a mother.......how ironic. What would he be doing if Bin Laden was out side his candy ass fucking country club ranch? I think he would of ran off to the White House, or to a bunker somewhere. Shout profanities all the way..........WHAT A PUNK..they are calling your chicken shit ass out. LOSER take this :kick: FOOL

19. Camp Casey has the porta potties. Guess who rules?
There is something slightly humbling to have to ask to use your adversary''s toilet or stand around doing the potty dance. There's something about acknowledging that we are all the same when it comes to human body needs.

Our local radio station had a Vet for Peace interview this evening and I thought that small piece of mundane news was priceless.

25. More on the expected crowd:Crawford bracing for thousands for d
Crawford bracing for thousands for dueling rallies
By ANGELA K. BROWN, Associated Press Writer

Saturday, August 27, 2005

(08-27) 00:10 PDT Crawford, Texas (AP) --

This one-stoplight town of 700 residents near President Bush's ranch braced for thousands of visitors Saturday, most in a cross-country caravan for a pro-Bush rally and others to support a three-week-long anti-war demonstration.

More than 3,000 people were expected at the school football stadium for a pro-Bush rally, the culmination of the "You don't speak for me, Cindy!" tour that started last week in California.

It would be the largest counter protest since Cindy Sheehan of Vacaville, Calif., started camping out off the road leading to Bush's ranch Aug. 6, soon after his Texas vacation began. She vowed to remain unless he talked to her about the war with Iraq that claimed the life of her son Casey and more than 1,870 other U.S. soldiers.

The pro-Bush caravan was coordinated by Move America Forward, a group led by former Republican California Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian and strategist Sal Russo, who in 2003 launched one of the two simultaneous efforts to recall California's then-governor, Democrat Gray Davis.

27. I'm up way too late but I need for all of you to know the CPH &
everyone else involved in supporting Cindy are on top of this situation and we are absolutely resolute in not letting anything get "out of control". There are many trained peacekeepers on the ground with more coming. We've been dealing with most of these guys for some time now, especially since last year when they really started ramping up (or trying to).

I was in on the end of a meeting late this evening at the Peace House with the Sheriff in attendance. Johnny, Hadi, Kay, Karen and several others were there. We are aware of the storm heading our way and we are committed to not letting anything happen. I reiterate to everyone coming, listen to directions and confront no one. We have used armbands in the past so look for green or blue (colors used in the past and find us, let us handle it). Don't worry for us, just send lots of good wishes and positive thoughts our way and if you want to pray for lots of angels, that is okay too.

Traffic in Crawford is probably going to be intense tomorrow starting early. Do not stop in front of the Peace House, follow directions to parking and then make your way to the Peace House. There are going to be shuttles operating in every direction. Patience is key, it is going to be hot, and it may be frustrating at times. We are all doing the best we can. The parking around the Peace House is expected to fill early, but overflow for Saturday has been arranged at the Weston in McGregor, as I understand it now and the stadium parking will again be available on Sunday. Other locations may be being arranged. We will all keep you posted.

Don't hesitate, DU'ers to volunteer an hour or two of your time. There is a check in tent right in front of the Peace House with sign up sheets. Help is need everywhere. Drivers, traffic contol, peacekeepers, the kitchen at Casey II, just one more time, please be patient. When it is hot, tempers flare. May we all please set the example and help Johnny, Hadi, Kay and all the rest that have worked so hard over the last few years to show Crawford "we liberal, "peaceniks"" are really on their side.

Thanks, signing out now, please get this message to GO and I'll check in with you all in the am (well it's already the am, I mean once I get to the Peace House around 7:30 or so).

One more time, thank you DU! You all have just overwhelmed even me, and I know you guys!

repeating dubyas meme 9/11 9/11 9/11

"The “You Don’t Speak for me, Cindy!” caravan, which is sponsored by Move America Forward, has made several stops along the way to rally in support of troops and in opposition to Sheehan.
The group plans a rally from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at the Crawford Community Center and a vigil at dusk in front of the sculpture, “Freedoms Angel of Steadfast Love,” which is dedicated to victims of the 9/11 attacks.
An effort was also underway Friday to bring families who lost loved ones both in the Iraq war and in the 9/11 attacks to Crawford for a rally in support of U.S. troops"
