United Nations calls for U.S. accountability
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 09:20 AM by NVMojo
August 29, 2005

GENEVA - A United Nations committee on racial discrimination has asked the United States to respond to the Western Shoshone appeal for urgent intervention, regarding the attack on their spiritual and cultural areas by the United States and mining corporations.

The committee pressed the United States for an explanation of expanded mining and nuclear waste storage on Western Shoshone ancestral land, and for ''placing their land up for auction for privatization.''

11. Yippee. The US needs a lot more "transparency" too.
And we need to do a lot of work on corruption in government.

One of whom died this year.

They have both been fighting for Shoshone lands for decades and this is great news.

15. good observation! This is what they fought for ...
www.wsdp.org for more on this issue. And in Nevada, it's been about gold extraction from public lands. However, the BLM held hearings in our area recently to discuss oil and gas leases on public lands in the state. Most of Nevada is owned by the federal government.

16. They are Western Shoshone...
I'm sure they are happy with this news.

I've had to work at Nellis AFB before. It was not to far from Tonopah...Beautiful area up that way. There is much more to Nevada than Las Vegas! :)

14. "League of Nations called for Nazi Accountability"
Same thing. The Busheviks are kissin' cousins to the Nazis, failing to match them only in the areas of violence and racism.

(does not Totalitarianism need to arrive each time in a NEW form?)

Still, it seems that the United Nation is determined to replicate the mistakes of the League of nations, as the Democrats replicate the mistakes of the German Social Democrats of 1933.

Sigh. Things don't really change much, do they?
