Air Force Releases New Religion Guidelines
Air Force Releases New Religion Guidelines

By ROBERT WELLER, Associated Press Writer

The Air Force released new guidelines for religious tolerance Monday that discourage public prayer at official functions and urge commanders to be sensitive about personal expressions of religious faith.

The document directs chaplains to "respect the rights of others to their own religious beliefs, including the right to hold no beliefs." But some who have criticized the academy questioned whether needed changes will really be implemented.

The guidelines, which apply to the entire Air Force, were drawn up after allegations that evangelical Christians wield so much influence at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs that anti-Semitism and other forms of religious harassment have become pervasive.

1. Thank you, GOD!
Please don't expect me to pray at another military function!

3. "Tolerance" for its members' faiths, maybe...
...but aerial bombardment for foreigners. "Tolerance" and "Air Force" are hardly terms that merit usage in the same breath.

Treating our military as a necessary evil of which we are not stupidly and bullishly proud would be a good first step back from our present madness.

4. The guy they sent to clean up the USAF academy mess
is a NAVY chaplain, conservative Jew, smart SOB and a genuinely nice fellow by the name of Arnie Resnicoff. Arnie is uncorruptible, which can make some bastards uncomfortable.

Give it to em with both barrels, Arnie!

6. Arnie will make it so, or make a stink if they get in his way
Like I said, incorruptible. He'll take the rulebook and use it as a noose to string up the upper echelon if they screw with him.

He is kind of mild mannered, but that should not deceive anyone--he's like a dog with a bone when it matters, and I suspect this issue matters to him...
