KCStar: McCaskill to run for Sen. Talent's seat (Good News Dems)
By STEVE KRASKE
The Kansas City Star

Claire McCaskill, the Missouri auditor who lost the 2004 race for governor, will run for the U.S. Senate next year, Democrats said Monday.

Her campaign said she “will announce her plans for elective office” on Tuesday at the old McCaskill feed mill in Houston, Mo. The office that McCaskill is seeking was not specified in the news release.

But several state Democrats said McCaskill had finally made a choice to run for Senate against incumbent Republican Jim Talent after months of weighing that race against another run for governor in 2008...

One other clue: The announcement was paid for by a new political committee, “McCaskill for Missouri,” a group not registered with the Missouri Ethics Commission. The committee could be registered in only one other place – the Federal Election Commission in Washington.

2. Not to me. She ruined herself as far as I am concerned---
in how she conducted herself in the campaign against Holden--among other things. She lied about his being responsible for the funds shortage in education, etc. She used Repug talking points that were false to go after him. She should have run on her own merits--she could have won that way, I believe--and saved the low road for Blunt. Later she compromised her position on a woman's right to choose, during the Blunt race, in order to try and get votes. (AND LORDY HOW I HATED TO SEE BLUNT WIN)
I am a life-long-yellow-dog Dem, but I am pissed big time at her. Haven't we got anyone else? Geez. I sure don't want to have to hold my nose again and vote for her a second time. I am tired of people who will say anything to get elected. THAT IS THE REPUG WAY, AND THE DLC WAY, and I want no more of it.
I am not the only long time Dem that feels this way.

3. Urghhhhh, ok I am upset at you but I will count to 10 and...

Say that... I think she would be 95% better than Talent. I think she has the best chance to win. Yes, she isn't grade A 100% super liberal but she is a Democrat (running in Missouri, not ocean front Cally) and I agree with her most of the time (as opposed to never agreeing with Talent). I believe she can add a +1 to the Dem Caucus. I am excited about this race. I want you on board. We need you. Please.

10. She is a good Dem and will take Talent out because...
McCaskill would have beat Blunt if it wasn't for Kerry abandoning Missouri. McCaskill is popular in rural Missouri (for a Dem) as well as the metropolitan areas. She will not have an incumbent war time President bring a strong GOP base to the polls. She will be hard to beat, guys I really believe she is the best candidate for Missouri. Are you guys Democrats? Jesus, does a Dem have to hold the party line 100% of the time? Is not 95% an improvement over 0%?

I agree she was just vile toward Gov. Holden. She's nothing if not
relentlessly ambitious. I really liked Holden. I lost huge respect for Claire McCaskill because she took very cheap shots at him. I think she may have lost that race because she made too many Democrats angry at her tactics.

However, she's a livewire, and would work circles around the always slimey, always loathesome Jim Talent.

Claire, Jim Talent and whatever

11. I wasn't happy with how Holden and McCaskill bickered back...
and forth. I was fairly pissed at both of them for that. Personally, I can't wait to send Talent packing. Guys, if we don't take him out now he will be another Bond, there for life.

5. “There’s no five-seat turnaround without winning Missouri,”
I'll take a DLC'er over a Repuke any day of the week

6. She isn't DLC, she just got a little nasty with our former Dem gov.
I was pissed at both of them at the time but I have put that behind me and I think MO dems will too. She has wide appeal in MO for her audits. She is a little moderate but is no DLC.

7. She's a good Democrat
I agree that she's hardly DLC, and she's certainly no Feinstein. She'll be a pretty good Democratic vote in the Senate.

I'm excited she's running. It's time to dump Talent, stat.
