Sheehan says she's glad Bush did not meet her during Texas vigil

CRAWFORD, Texas - A woman who led an anti-war protest for nearly a month near President Bush's ranch said Tuesday that she's glad Bush never showed up to discuss her son's death in Iraq, saying the president's absence "galvanized the peace movement."

Cindy Sheehan's comments came as war protesters packed up their campsite near the ranch and prepared to leave Tuesday for a three-week bus tour.

"I look back on it, and I am very, very, very grateful he did not meet with me, because we have sparked and galvanized the peace movement," Sheehan told The Associated Press. "If he'd met with me, then I would have gone home, and it would have ended there."

....

"I thought our country was going down, down, down. I thought nobody cared about our children killed in the war, but millions care, and millions care about our country and want to make it better," she said. "The love and support I've received give me hope that my life can someday be normal."

1. Well, she's right--her actions helped breathe new life into a peace
movement that was previously on a feeding tube.

9. And still is "on a feeding tube"
When several 100K people march on the Pentagon as in 1969 (like me)there will be a real "peace movment"

18. I suspect there may be more than a few angry hurricane survivors
among the war objectors. The guy keeps providing more and more reasons to get him OUTTA there.

20. cindy
Sorry but I can't agree. I live in Vacaville and my opinion of her changed. She cares only about herself. Today at the supermarket, the people in line were talking about her and the nouns and adjectives were less than flattering. She fell in love with the media at her son's funeral (it was huge) and hasn't been able to live without being the center of attention.

3. Cindy Sheehan knows her place in what will become history.
Probably Bush's greatest blunder his own arrogance will do him in. Where was KKKarl when George needed him?

6. Note the discrepancy in the attempts to discredit Cindy
"Many Bush supporters pointed out that Sheehan never spoke against Bush or the war when she and other grieving families met the president about two months after her son died last year."

But then there are the claims by such as Michelle Malkin that Cindy has an anti-Bush past. Well, which is it? Did she suddenly switch gears, or has she always had an anti-Bush agenda? Not that either claim would discredit her, and not that either is a valid criticism in the first place.

Get your smears together, GOP. You're slipping.

17. This will backfire on the Anti-war movement...
When Cindy first came on she got a lot of sympathy because she wanted to ask shrub "Why her son died?" And his inability to look a a mother in the eye and say the usual nonsense was devastating. It made him look like a coward. Imagine what would have happened to the GOP if she just said "I guess he's afraid, to talk to a little old lady like myself."

But the problem for the "anti-war movement" is two-fold.
1) They don't have an answer for the sh*tstorm that would happen when the US leaves before creating some sort of order.
2) "Protesting Left" have the shrillness and smugness of a right wing "Christian."

Let's skip the first one because it's too complicated and a bit off topic, but look at the second one.

I'll be the first to admit that there's an unfair bias against the left in this country, even without that bias Americans really don't like protesters regardless if they are Conservatives protesting Elian, Terri, Abortion Clinics or Liberals protesting War.

That still doesn't mean the "protesting left" turns off the vast numbers of Americans. There's a reason why the support for the war has been eroding despite the lack of an organized "Anti-War" Movement. You have the facts coming in every day, as opposed to video of people comparing Bush/Republicans/Israel/Christians to Hitler/Nazis, wackos shouting conspiracy theories, and hippies protesting for legalization of Pot.

What can Liberals do? Americans only turn to liberals when there's a big enough sh*tstorm of Conservative's making.

19. No it won't.
Certain dumbass talking heads and radio hosts may jump on spinning the quote tomorrow, like "she never wanted to meet bush again, she's a fraud" but those lying dumbasses don't have influence over the Anti-war movement.
