Powell To The Rescue?
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 09:02 AM by Mark E. Smith
Radar Online 9/7

With George W. Bush's approval rating at an all-time low following the bungled hurricane relief effort, sources say the White House has turned to the most trusted man ever associated with the administration to save the president's political bacon. The only question is, will Colin Powell take the job?

Ever since Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu "asked the president point blank to appoint a cabinet-level official within 24 hours to oversee the emergency operations," people have waited to see who the candidate would be, says Landrieu's spokesman Brian Richardson. "We still haven't gotten an answer."

If Powell is indeed the appointee, as D.C. sources say likely, it would give the former secretary of state and general the opportunity to reprise his Gulf War leadership on America's own gulf coast. It would also give Powell, who left the administration amid infighting over foreign policy, a chance to receive a hero's welcome on the world stage - something his reputation could use after he appeared before the United Nations with bogus proof of Saddam Hussein's illegal weapons program.

29. I think that Bush has proven that he doesn't care about approval ratings
he cares about whether or not the oil industry approves of his job.

THey need to twist in the wind a little longer. It would serve to relieve pressure on Bush which is exactly what we do not want.

8. I'm not sure the Bushies would quite trust him
Powell might insist on being as open and forthright as possible about the myriad failures of the initial Bush admin response to the Katrina disaster. Something the Bushies would rather not see, I'm sure.

I doubt Powell would want to find himself in the position of having to lie for these people again.

If THAT swine is their "most trusted man", then they DON'T HAVE a "trusted man".

reports that Cheney has been on vacation and is in the process of buying another $3 million mansion on the Chesapeake Bay. Maybe once he closes on his new mansion he'll find the time to visit the Gulf Coast.

9. Dealing with black people you need a black person
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 09:03 AM by Toots
That has been their thought process from day one. Remember when the Congressional black caucus wanted to meet with Bush* at the Whitehouse. Bush* sent Rice and Powell to meet with them but he personally would not do so. Bush* and his Cabal just don't know how to relate to black folk, never have and never will.....Imagine a country where you don't need and adjective in front of the words folk or people or person. No "black" folk or "white" folk just folks. As long as people such as the current crop of Republicans hold power that can never be. They thrive on division.

The United Nations, February 5, 2003.
Powell's credibility died that day and nothing will bring it back.
Not even a photo op in Gulfport.

17. Silent Powell's no hero on Iraq
After watching the excellent CNN Presents documentary "Dead Wrong" with David Ensor a few weeks back - it's about the President's commission on the intelligence failures leading up to the Iraqi war - it turns out it wasn't failure at all.

---

The chicken hawk neo cons of the Bush administration, who were salivating for war, drooling to send anybody's kids but their own to fight and die, needed a patsy to sell the case for war in Iraq to the world.

They needed someone beyond reproach. They needed a man with military and street cred. So they went to the only man with combat experience in the upper echelon of the Bush administration, the son of a Jamaican immigrant from Fox St. in the South Bronx, a guy who was educated in the rough-and-tumble public schools of New York City where 9/11 had happened, who graduated with a B.A. in geology from CCNY.

They went to Colin Powell.

20. Sponge Powell would be perfect.
It has become obvious that Powell is nothing but a sponge. He has no real views of his own. He takes on the agenda of his owners. Send him to the gulf - he can just soak up all the water.

25. You mean Uncle Tom?
Uncle Tom will do anything GWB asks him to do-- including lying about WMD and getting us into a war for nothing that is killing a bunch of innocent Iraqis and young American men and women. He's a revolting excuse of a human being. He'll grovel at *'s feet just begging for * to shit on his face. Nothing that he does would surprise me in the least.

32. If Powell rides to Bush's rescue this time
Well, it would hardly result in a hero's welcome on the world stage, or any other stage for that matter. Well, perhaps the stage that the Theater of the Absurd is played out on.
