Pelosi: 'September has Become Synonymous With a Lack of Preparedness, Whether in New York or New Orleans'

WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined Congressmen Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Bennie Thompson (D-MS), and Ed Markey (D-MA) and first responders at a news conference today to discuss homeland security and how America remains vulnerable four years after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Below are Pelosi's remarks:

"Four years ago, our country suffered a terrible attack. This Sunday will mark the four-year anniversary. We remember the many families who were affected by losing their loved ones and their home life. They were devastated. And there were heroes that emerged that day as well.

"At that time, we made some serious and solemn commitments to the American people that we would keep them safe, that we would not be caught off guard, and that those who suffered and died would always be in our hearts, our thought, and our prayers, and serve as an inspiration to us to keep America safe.

"The Department of Homeland Security has declared September 'National Preparedness Month,' a time to increase public awareness about the need to prepare for emergencies. Unfortunately, September has become synonymous with a lack of preparedness, whether in New York or New Orleans. Americans should now harbor no illusions about the government's ability to respond effectively to disasters.

8. I guess the Repuglican 9/11 "pat yourself on the back" party is canceled.
After 4 years, maybe citizens will see what truly happened on 9/11 and not the Repug spin that's been regurgitated year after year.

Go Nancy! :patriot:

Do they really want to call attention to Sept. 11 now?

Critics say Bush 'in denial,' decry his comments on Katrina

...

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California told reporters Wednesday that Gulf Coast residents were struck by two disasters -- Katrina and the president's failure to lead.

"Instead of unconscionably blaming others, President Bush must take charge and take responsibility, and must get it right, and that is my concern and the message that I will bring to the president: 'Mr. President, you should have taken charge and you should have taken responsibility,' " she said.

Pelosi recounted a conversation with Bush, during which she called for the resignation of Michael Brown, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency who has been under fire since the outset.

"He said, 'Why would I do that?' " Pelosi said. "I said, 'Because of all that went wrong, of all that didn't go right last week.' And he said, 'What didn't go right?' "

"Oblivious, in denial, dangerous," she said.

26. Shutup Pelosi!
The Democrats are a bunch of LOSERS. The only redeeming quality they have is in comparison to the downright EVIL that is the repub party. I'm getting sick and tired of these LAME Democrat politicians criticizing the president, when they know it's just pointless talk.

Why don't you just go back to thanking Shrub for everything he's doing Pelosi? Why don't you go back to your Congressional post and compromise some more with the repub party, in the hopes that someday, perhaps 20-30 years from now, they'll do the same in return.

Frankly I'm disgusted with our entire political system, and the so-called leaders. The repubs are INCOMPETENT & EVIL, while the democrats are WIMPS & PACIFISTS. I wish someone would call this administration out once and for all, and quit worrying about being nice or coy.

He might not be in denial. This could very well have been planned to get rid of hordes of poor people, people who tend to vote Democratic.

33. That phrase just leaps out of the screen!
"What didn't go right?"

:wtf:

The President of the United States doesn't know "what didn't go right"
that week? In all seriousness, is that not grounds for his suspension
due to mental illness? (I'm not talking about general bad/evil/moronic
behaviour but the genuine incapability to understand the situation of
the worst federal emergency in decades. That quote proves that he is
totally unfit for the job - even to the freepers and wishy-washy dems
who cut him miles of slack over his other f*ckups.)
