Tight Constraints on Pentagon's Freedom Walk
Event Remembering 9/11, Troops to Be Kept 'Sterile,' Limited to Preregistered
By Petula Dvorak
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, September 9, 2005; Page A01

Organizers of the Pentagon's 9/11 memorial Freedom Walk on Sunday are taking extraordinary measures to control participation in the march and concert, with the route fenced off and lined with police and the event closed to anyone who does not register online by 4:30 p.m. today.

The march, sponsored by the Department of Defense, will wend its way from the Pentagon to the Mall along a route that has not been specified but will be lined with four-foot-high snow fencing to keep it closed and "sterile," said Allison Barber, deputy assistant secretary of defense.

The U.S. Park Police will have its entire Washington force of several hundred on duty and along the route, on foot, horseback and motorcycles and monitoring from above by helicopter. Officers are prepared to arrest anyone who joins the march or concert without a credential and refuses to leave, said Park Police Chief Dwight E. Pettiford.

The irony is that this is Rumsfield's little thing.

5. Just read about Bushville
And that sounds great

the "freedom march" is something else.

This could be a media disaster for the Administration, especially if the gauntlet is televised in a way that explains this hypocrisy in a visual manner.

Freedom for some, who the hell is gonna buy this shit
I march for freedom, because, I'm handpicked, screened, and cordon off from the less equal showing the world the "two americas"

noun
1 a line or circle of police, soldiers, or guards preventing access to or from an area or building : troops threw a cordon around the headquarters.

2 an ornamental cord or braid.

3 Architecture another term for stringcourse .

I believe the Old Man himself Donald RumsFailed will be leading the march. It's for Solidarity, you see.

We'll all join in, if not physically then spiritually. We'll all be marching "together". NOT

RumsFool will probably not DARE walk in his own Freedom Walk.

One restricted group will be the media, whose members will not be allowed to walk along the march route. Reporters and cameras are restricted to three enclosed areas along the route but are not permitted to walk alongside participants walking from the Pentagon, across the Memorial Bridge to the Mall.

The Washington Post and other corporate entities initially signed on as co-sponsors. But critics from within the newspaper and from the antiwar movement said partnering with the Pentagon raised questions about objectivity, and three weeks ago The Post pulled its co-sponsorship.
Other media co-sponsors -- WTOP radio, WJLA-TV and NewsChannel 8 -- support the effort with advertising."

The media openly restricted - why the HELL won't they just boycot this crap! Boycot the Bushistas just for three weeks, tell the public why, and you'll see how fast there won't be any restrictions anymore...

"I RAQ AND ROLL"

Words and Music by Clint Black and Hayden Nicholas

YOU CAN WAVE YOUR SIGNS IN PROTEST
AGAINST AMERICA TAKING STANDS
THE STANDS AMERICA'S TAKEN
ARE THE REASON THAT YOU CAN

IF EVERYONE WOULD GO FOR PEACE
THERE'D BE NO NEED FOR WAR
BUT WE CAN'T IGNORE THE DEVIL
HE'LL KEEP COMING BACK FOR MORE

SOME SEE THIS IN BLACK AND WHITE
OTHERS ONLY GRAY
WE'RE NOT BEGGING FOR A FIGHT
NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY

WE HAVE THE RESOLUTION
THAT SHOULD PUT'EM ALL TO SHAME
BUT IT'S A DIFFERENT KIND OF DEADLINE
WHEN I'M CALLED IN THE GAME

CHORUS
I RAQ, I RACK'EM UP AND I ROLL
I'M BACK AND I'M A HIGH TECH GI JOE
I PRAY FOR PEACE, PREPARE FOR WAR
AND I NEVER WILL FORGET
THERE'S NO PRICE TOO HIGH FOR FREEDOM
SO BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU TREAD

THIS TERROR ISN'T MAN TO MAN
THEY CAN BE NO MORE THAN COWARDS
IF THEY WON'T SHOW US THEIR WEAPONS
WE MIGHT HAVE TO SHOW THEM OURS

IT MIGHT BE A SMART BOMB
THEY FIND STUPID PEOPLE TOO
AND IF YOU STAND WITH THE LIKES OF SADDAM
ONE JUST MIIGHT FIND YOU

CHORUS II
I ROCK, I RACK'EM UP AND I ROLL
I'M BACK AND I'M A HIGH TECH GI JOE
I'VE GOT INFRARED, I'VE GOT GPS AND I'VE GOT THAT GOOD OLD FASHIONED LEAD
THERE'S NO PRICE TOO HIGH FOR FREEDOM
SO BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU TREAD

BRIDGE
NOW YOU CAN COME ALONG
OR YOU CAN STAY BEHIND
OR YOU CAN GET OUT OF THE WAY
BUT OUR TROOPS TAKE OUT THE GARBAGE
FOR THE GOOD OLD U.S.A.

I ROCK, I RACK'EM UP AND I ROLL
IN THE USA
I ROCK, I RACK'EM UP AND I ROLL
I'M TALKIN' ABOUT THE USA

Welcome to the rightwings concept of fun! They control the horizontal, they control the vertical, they control the air you breath, the water you drink, the shoes you wear, the way you are supposed to clap, how you are to walk, talk, think and work.

Unless you follow they predetermined route correctly you will be kicked out beaten or humiliated.

So suppose one of these robot supporters have to take a leak and suddenly sprints for the nearest porta-poti? do they get shot?

Are they all going to wear the same clothes?

Are they all going to be white? I think we know the answer to that one.

Personally, I would like to show up at what ever finish line this thing has and hand out recruitment forms. By the way, I bet there will be a sprint to the finish just to get the fuck away from that mind control bullshit.

Personally, they should just pass out nazi arm bands and complete the picture.

19.  "Freedom March" Will Be Fenced In, Require Prereg (Washington Post)
Tight Constraints on Pentagon's Freedom Walk
Event Remembering 9/11, Troops to Be Kept 'Sterile,' Limited to Preregistered

Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, September 9, 2005; A01

Organizers of the Pentagon's 9/11 memorial Freedom Walk on Sunday are taking extraordinary measures to control participation in the march and concert, with the route fenced off and lined with police and the event closed to anyone who does not register online by 4:30 p.m. today.

The march, sponsored by the Department of Defense, will wend its way from the Pentagon to the Mall along a route that has not been specified but will be lined with four-foot-high snow fencing to keep it closed and "sterile," said Allison Barber, deputy assistant secretary of defense.

Officers are prepared to arrest anyone who joins the march or concert without a credential and refuses to leave, said Park Police Chief Dwight E. Pettiford.

<snip>
Barber said that organizers would rather not have such stringent measures on their event but that police had requested them. Pettiford said officers would patrol to keep interlopers out because the Pentagon restricted the event in its permit application. "That is what their permit called for, so we have those fences to keep the public out."

39. "Government agencies are encouraging their employees to march"

"Government agencies are encouraging their employees to march in the Pentagon event. On August 19th, for example, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in a move reminiscent of Soviet-era May Day marches, “urged” all employees of the Veterans Administration to attend the Freedom Walk. This is much the same mechanism that assured Saddam of huge crowds to line the routes of his gross military parades. Such official pageantry is a staple of Kim Jong Il’s North Korea. We’ve seen this in Enver Hoxha’s Albania, Slobodan Milošević’s Serbia, Mussolini’s Italy, Franco’s Spain and Deng Xiaoping’s China. It’s nothing new. The Roman Empire pioneered using mass spectacle as a propaganda device to project the power of the state.

Only this time there’s a new twist. Government by corporations needs a corporate sponsor. Hence, September 11th’s Freedom Walk will be sponsored by Lockheed Martin – the defense contractor that makes all those nifty smart bombs that are vaporizing billions of our tax dollars, not to mention “liberated” Iraqi cities like Fallujah. And it’s sponsored by Subway – they’re the ones who make all those submarine sandwiches that we will no longer be eating. And it’s sponsored by various Washington DC area radio and TV stations, including the local Disney/ABC affiliate – they’re the people who will be bringing us “fair and balanced” news reports about the Freedom Walk. They’re also the same people who unquestioningly echoed the Bush administration’s false assertions of Iraq having weapons of mass destruction and being connected to the 9/11 attacks."

56. Freedom! This defines freedom:
Officers are prepared to arrest anyone who joins the march or concert without a credential and refuses to leave, said Park Police Chief Dwight E. Pettiford.

Remember the first amendment? Freedom to assemble. I guess the Pentagon is throwing a private party.

59. "the propaganda promenade" might be a better name
on another thread they were expecting a crowd between 3000 and 10,000.

stretch 3000 people along a mile and its going to look pretty meager.

i also find it hard to believe that conservatives will walk a mile for

anything.

62. "Pink Elephants on Parade"
Anyone here remember that hallucinatory Disney cartoon that depicted a drunken stupor (I think Dumbo accidently fell into a vat of the clown's beer)

THAT is what this stupid parade reminds me of.

65. Keep the route closed and sterile?
That sounds like a rip-snortin good time. Not. I can't imagine why even a Bushbot would want to do this.

66. Why are they still doing this?
It's only going to blow up in their faces in the wake of Katrina.

Those troops in the parade need to be off helping people.
