Bush Waives Saudi Trafficking Sanctions (sex trade, child sex...)
09-21) 18:40 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

President Bush decided Wednesday to waive any financial sanctions on Saudi Arabia, Washington's closest Arab ally in the war on terrorism, for failing to do enough to stop the modern-day slave trade in prostitutes, child sex workers and forced laborers.

In June, the State Department listed 14 countries as failing to adequately address trafficking problems, subjecting them all to possible sanctions if they did not crack down.

Of those 14, Bush concluded that Bolivia, Jamaica, Qatar, Sudan, Togo and the United Arab Emirates had made enough improvements to avoid any cut in U.S. aid or, in the case of countries that get no American financial assistance, the barring of their officials from cultural and educational events, said Darla Jordan, a State Department spokeswoman.

Cambodia and Venezuela were not considered to have made similar adequate improvements. But Bush cleared them nonetheless to receive limited assistance, for such things as combatting trafficking. In the case of Venezuela — which has had a tense relationship with the United States under the leadership of President Hugo Chavez, one of Latin America's most outspoken critics of U.S. foreign policy — Bush also allowed funding for strengthening the political party system and supporting electoral observation.

54. Years ago
Back in early 2001, before Dubya had done any real damage to the country, I joking mentioned to a coworker, whom I knew to have been "Born Again," a website I'd seen that spelled out why Dubya is the antichrist.

My coworker viewed the website and afterward objected that Dubya is not the antichrist. His reason? "Because the antichrist won't come in the guise of a Christian."

If you ask me, any agent-of-the-devil worth the title would certainly come in the guise of a Christian. I mean, why wouldn't he?!?

Of course, with the likes of Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell on the scene, it would be hard for a "real" Christian-professed antichrist would seem pretty tame by comparison.

So, let's recap the Bush administration's policies:

A loving marriage between to consenting adults of the same sex? No way!

A brutal sex industry trafficking in enslaved child-prostitutes? That's just fine!

* and that crowd are Nazis waiting for a Hitler: they're simply opportunists who have no problem with committing unbounded evil if it helps them make a buck. If/when a Hitler shows up spewing mesmerizing rhetoric, the tinder will soon be ready, as it was in Germany in the early 30s.

Who wants to join me up in Canada? I hear that the weather doesn't suck too badly in Vancouver.

And people wonder why I don't believe in all things bible. Really, how can I NOT believe in a supreme being? There must be something wrong with me I guess. Or, right.

Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 09:32 PM by rateyes
put on Saudi Arabia anyway--are we going to refuse to buy their oil--NO--what do we import to them that they can't get anywhere else? To threaten Saudi Arabia with financial sanctions is a damned joke---they, financially speaking, have us by the ba**s. But, for Bush to do this---it shows he has NO MORAL COMPASS. The next time somebody says to me face-to-face that the Republican party is the party of moral values, and that Bush is a moral person--I swear I'm gonna get myself arrested for busting my hand with their face.

President Announces Initiatives to Combat Human Trafficking

...
I am honored to be with the courageous men and women who are serving on the front lines in the fight against human trafficking. You've got a tough job, but it's a necessary job. You're hunting down the traffickers, you're serving justice by putting them behind bars, you're liberating captives, and you're helping them recover from years of abuse and trauma. The lives of tens of thousands of innocent women and children depend on your compassion, they depend upon your determination, and they depend upon your daily efforts to rescue them from misery and servitude. You are in a fight against evil, and the American people are grateful for your dedication and service. (Applause.)

8. "In the case of Venezuela..." !!!!!!
First, as stated by posts above, condoning these crimes and rights violations is atrocious.

Second, OMG how blatant could he be in condoning interference in another democracy - "strengthening the party system" (funding right wing opposition) - our these our tax dollars?????? And cough choke sputter.... supporting electoral observation, who the hell do they think they're fooling???????????????????????

Third, I'm really not surprised, but it still hurts to read confirmation of the same thing over and over - he IS evil.

13. Not surprising at all
Same was done in the US with Conspiracy of Silence

"Conspiracy of Silence is a 56 minute documentary film detailing an alleged Lawrence "Larry" King child sex scandal that involved many children from Nebraska institution, Boys Town. The organized child sex parties implicated the Reagan and Bush White House during the 1980s. King was the ringleader of the sex ring which had links to other fellow political conservatives in Washington D.C. including Republican lobbyist Craig Spence, Sen. Elizabeth Dole's staff, along with members of the financial elite of Nebraska."

How many Saudi fighters are in Iraq right now? Er....fighting on OUR SIDE I mean. There are plenty of "dead enders" killing OUR soldiers at the moment.
How can ANYONE, Republican, Independent, even Democrat, support the decisions of this evil fucking cabal? People are just not paying attention, but WHY are they not paying attention, you may ask? Because OUR MEDIA will not report these stories. I thought the worm may have turned after Katrina, reporters were actually doing their jobs. But since returning to the studios and the ever watchful eye of the Corporate Media Execs, things have returned to "normal". Propping up the idiot boy-king and hiding his evil deeds from Americans' eyes.

With allies like the Saudis, who needs enemies? They rape little kids and send people over to hi-jack planes and destroy our people and cities.

But I guess they invest money in Bush family oil boondoggles, so it works out pretty well for the Bush crime family.

against a Country that is comitting child sex trade?

I mean, isn't that obviously supporting it by your policies?

Does Bush really want to openly state that he'd rather keep good relations with the Saudi government for oil reasons, and that he'd sacrifice the abuse of children as sex slaves for it?

You know, it's just damn mind boggling. And we get angry with Musharaff for his "rape" statement, but let this one slide?

23. I can buy kiddie porn openly here
in Frankfurt. Every porn shop in the red-light district sells porn with obviously underaged "actors", mostly from Russia. You can also walk into porn shops and openly buy "nudist camp guides" which just so happen to heavily feature nude children in staged family photos. Basically, you can buy he same sort of stuff anywhere in Northern Europe.

I can also walk four blocks and have sex with a prostitute for about $40. I don't know exactly what percent of Europe's prostitutes actually live under conditions one would call "slavery" but I'm very sure he answer is "lots".

So Bush, partly to avoid the topic of Iraq in the bullying run up to war to stay front and center, brought up the sex trade issue at the UN. It was more than a curve ball. it was a signal deviation into the deviate from the civil rights scorecard started in the Helsinki days of Carter.

Hiding the way Bushco intends to dole out punishments and favors behind their favorite use of sex- blackmail.

Did the nations focused on Iraq set their bewilderment aside for a second to get the message? Instead of tracking terrorists, track porn buying rock stars. Instead of the war on drugs, simply criminalize marijuana for California lefties. But as an exercise in global hypocrisy there is nothing like Junior sending a signal that the next issue he intends to do nothing about will be his next tool to extort what he wants from the world. It also makes one fairly confident that in tracking the buddies of Bushco one would find stellar examples of the moral crimes Bush is breaking wind about- and doing nothing.

First, Bush is supporting terrorist states, hotbeds of terrorism at least, condoning sex slavery, doing little to nothing about AIDS, prescription drugs or "democracy" or the rights of Muslim women.

Except he uses the issues he champions in reverse inverse proportions to his desultory pious words. No relief, no cures, no honor, only hypocrisy and exploitation.

And one is very right to be suspicious that further under that rock of jelly are the festering evils or their cultivation that he pretends to find the most abhorrent.

Or is one inclined even now to say "Oh I wouldn't go that far, he's not that bad. That's a harsh thing to say." Cold experiential logic does not need a Mencken to calmly predict that in the moral race to the bottom, the Bushes have already staked out their claims.

53. It's the same old cold war story -
We allow them to do whatever they want if they say they are on our side.

The corollary to that is, they feel they can do anything they want because we refuse to call them on it.

It's the same policy that allied us with Saddam and OBL, with Batista and Pinochet, and it has NEVER done us any good.

68. What is it with Republicans & slavery?
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 05:21 PM by NewJeffCT
Tom DeLay blocks US condmenation of the slavery practices in the Northern Mariana Islands (after the US Senate passed it unanimously)

Bush waives this with regards to Saudi Arabia...

Pat Robertson exploits slaves for his diamond trade in Africa...

and, didn't they also look the other way with regards to another country recently, too?
