GOP Candidate Distances Self From Bush

GOP Candidate Distances Self From BushIn Orange County Congressional Race, GOP Candidate Distances Herself From President Bush

The Associated Press

IRVINE, Calif. Sep 30, 2005 — Marilyn Brewer, a leading Republican candidate for the nation's only open House seat, stared into the TV camera and proclaimed her support for the president.

She was not talking about George W. Bush.

"I stand side by side with Ronald Reagan on less taxes and less government," Brewer told voters at a candidate forum.

The former state assemblywoman also praised Nancy Reagan for her devotion to stem cell research, an issue that has bedeviled the Bush White House. And she touts as her prize endorsement Sen. John McCain, the president's sometime rival and critic.

Not a word about Bush.

Later, the self-described loyal Republican who voted for the president in 2004 explained her calculus: "If the election was this year … he would not be re-elected."

6. So she wants to throw in with the American pResident who funded
mass murder in Latin America, death squads, mass-murders/devastation of entire villages, sending survivors running to hide in the forest without shelter, homeless, murders of clergy, union workers, simple workers, townspeople, children, old people, etc., etc.

Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? Republicans just have a lot of Klass, don't they?

Out to win the seat left by Chris Cox's departure. One of her opponents in the primary is the vigilante/Minuteman, Jim Gilchrist.

I lived in Irvine - part of COx's district and there are LOTS of Dem's there. The Mayor is a Dem!

The problem here is that the Democratic party is totally inept in finding and funding a real candidate to run against the re-pukes.

This race is WINNABLE if the NATIONAL committee gets serious!

19. Here are a few suggestions for GOPers trying to distance themselves
from - and I mean this sincerely - the top banana. Try these:

"I don't know that man."
"I only met him briefly."
" I will not be able to comment until the investigation is over."
"You must be a partisan playing politics or a politician playing partisan or playing partisan politics or just a really rude person for bringing this up."

If you need further assistance, watch old tapes of Scotty McClellan.

Later, the self-described loyal Republican who voted for the president in 2004 explained her calculus: "If the election was this year ... he would not be re-elected."

I have news for Candidate Brewer, she needs to brush up on her math:
Bu$hCo. wasn't re-elected last year; and, he hasn't been elected to be re-elected.

~snip~

"Of the leading candidates, I'm probably with the president on more issues than anyone else," Campbell said.

~snip~

The race is complicated by the candidacy of Jim Gilchrist, a founder of the Minuteman Project ... Running as a candidate for the American Independent Party, he threatens to siphon votes from Campbell ...

~snip~

The state Democratic Party has endorsed trial lawyer Steve Young, but he is not given much of a chance. Only 27 percent of the district's voters are Democrats.

~snip~

Turnout is the key ... with 10 Republicans + Gilchrist ... if a candidate receives a majority of votes cast, he/she is declared elected. If no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast, only then will a December vote occur:

"If no candidate receives a majority of votes cast, the name of that candidate of each qualified political party who receives the most votes cast for all candidates of that party would be placed on the special general election ballot as the candidate of that party."

http://www.ocvote.com/Candidate/48th/Factsheet.pdf

There are 4 Democrats in the field of 17 candidates, 10 GOP, 1 Green, 1 Libertarian, plus the Minuteman as an American Independent.

I don't know if all of Orange County uses ES&S machines, but I'm sure it's a good county for Rove to have padded **'s numbers in 2004.

23. it's very important that she get the GOP nomination, since that's the
real race. One animal rescuer who hates the God-Chimp and thinks he's the next Mussolini voted for Brewer and actually worked with her often. The Dem slate seems rather good as well. The primary is on the 4th, and the general on Dec. 6. Minutemen founder Gilchrist is also running!

29. isn't it if one candidate gets a majority of all votes cast ...
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 11:35 PM by cosmicdot
that candidate wins, and there won't be a December election held?

I'm with what the Sushi Bandit said up thread, and it's essentially the complaint I made to the DNC ... considering the large field of candidates, the Democrats may have had a chance with a little coordination and effort. Granted I read that Orange Co., CA., delivered Bu$h the biggest margin of any US county in 2004 (with ES&S machines, some Rove padding might have occurred), but there are 10 GOP candidates seeking the 48th's seat. In my message to the DNC, I, also, expressed how disheartening it was for a Democrat to get a GOP Brewer mailer with an endorsement by a former OC Democratic congressman (Jerry Patterson). Who's in charge here?

Seems this election has been kept low key aside from the multitude of street signs. Couldn't this election have been held in November along with the Gropinator's initiative drive to ruin California?

below is copied from:
http://www.ocvote.com/Candidate/48th/Factsheet.pdf

"All candidates shall be listed on one ballot and if any candidate receives a majority of all votes cast, he or she shall be declared elected, and no special general election shall be held.

"What if no candidate wins the contest in the Primary?

"If no candidate receives a majority of votes cast, the name of that candidate of each qualified political party who receives the most votes cast for all candidates of that party would be placed on the special general election ballot as the candidate of that party."

Here's the field of candidates:

David R. Crouch - Republican
Bruce Cohen - Libertarian
Steve Young - Democratic
Don Udall - Republican
Bea Foster - Democratic
Scott MacCabe - Republican
Guy E. Mailly - Republican
Marsha A. Morris - Republican
Marilyn C. Brewer - Republican
Marshall Samuel Sanders - Republican
Edward A. Suppe - Republican
Tom Pallow - Democratic
Bea Tiritilli - Green
John Graham - Democratic
Jim Gilchrist - American Independent (the Minuteman)
John Kelly - Republican
John Campbell - Republican

10 GOP
4 Dems

I really hate it when people say "less taxes." It's FEWER taxes.

And I think Raygun was probably interred horizontally, so it would be difficult for her to be standing with him. But whatever.

Less taxation would be grammatically correct, though with this stupid deficit I don't think it's very practical.

On edit: Now that Reagan has been dead a while, is he still covered by the two term ammendment? Republicans might just try to dig him up and run him again.
