Book Deal for Judith Miller?

NEW YORK Just hours after the announcement that Time Inc. editor Norman Pearlstine, who turned over Matt Cooper's notes to the Plame prosecutor last summer, would write a book about anonymous sources, Arianna Huffington said that sources had told her that reporter Judith Miller has agreed to write a book for Simon & Shuster for $1.2 million.

MIller's longtime editor there, the fabled Alice Mayhew, would be her editor, Huffington wrote at her Web site, Huffingtonpost.com. Huffington says her sources are "senior editors" at the publishing house.

Mayhew was on the list of those who visited Miller in jail, according to The Washington Post.

While this has not yet been confirmed, the Pearlstine book is certainly real, will be called "Off the Record," and will be published by another legendary editor, Nan A. Talese, at Doubleday, in 2007.

1. So who the hell is going to buy this book?
Those who tilt to the left will leave the book alone disgusted by Judith's aiding & abetting *'s push to invade Iraq (in addition to writing several stories during the war that they had found WMD).

And the right will give this book a wide berth since she works for the New York Times the home of the liberal media choosing instead to buy whatever stream of semi-consciousness gibberish one of the right's talking heads spout out on a depressing regular basis.

I think Miller's story might be worth a good sized magazine piece but that's about it.

9. Righties don't need to SELL books..
That's what all the "foundations" are for.. they buy them up in BULK..send the writer out on the publicity trail when the big-buys have sent the book to the top..they yak and yak about what a great book it is.. Then the book is given away free at all their "conferences".. What's left over ends up at the 99cent stores and BigLots a few months later..

.... loses their shirt on this deal. Who gives a shit what a has-been, lying media whore has to say?

I'd sooner buy a book from a real whore. At least you'd get a semblance of the truth.

13. Well, she IS the first person to go to jail voluntarily for no good reason
I mean, we have books by guilty people. By innocent people. By people who went to jail for a cause.

But we've never had a person just sort of go on a whim for no good reason at all.

I'm not sure how one bulks that up to a hardcover, but maybe they'll be fifty or hundred pages of apology for buying the admin. bullshit in the leadup to Iraq.
