Questions about Schwarzenegger's treatment of women persist
Posted on Fri, Oct. 24, 2003

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Gov.-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger calls the whole thing ``old news,'' but the sexual misconduct allegations leveled against him in the closing days of his campaign are not going away.

Activists are looking for more women to come forward. The California attorney general still thinks a criminal investigation is justified.

And while Schwarzenegger tries to appear gubernatorial, his behavior has become a regular joke on late-night TV and in the comics pages, with ``Doonesbury'' this week depicting the former action hero as giant groping hand.

Some in California's capital are not willing to let it rest either. State Sen. Jackie Speier, a Democrat, said today that Schwarzenegger should take the same half-day sexual harassment training course required of other California public employees.

:wtf:
Hmm, didn't the California attorney general vote for Arnold?

Keep you eye on http://www.codepinkalert.org/ and the Los Angeles Times for updates on this.
Cheers,

1. Questions? We have all the facts we need. He's guilty.
He would be convicted of harrasment in any court using only what we know so far. We don't need any more woman to come forward. I'm sure there are dozens more but we already have more than we need. What we need is a prosecutor with balls.

2. I'll bet
a prosecutor without balls would be more likely to go after the gropenator.

3. NO, the statute of limitations ran out on most if not all of the possible
charges years ago. The NEWEST charge dated back to 2000. Regardless, the fact that the story broke late wasn't much help. I suspect the times was truthful in that it took that long to document, and IT DID hurt Arnold. I suspect that had the story been ready WEEKS before the recall, it would have hurt him badly.

4. I agree
I've heard the same thing regarding the statute of limitations. However in the court of public opinion Arnold might find his trail just starting.

Then there's upcoming report from the Los Angeles Times:

>> While the campaign may be over, Barabak said, the story of Schwarzenegger's past is not. He said the Times is investigating potentially more damaging charges against the governor-elect.<<

19. I wonder if he's the reason a Republican soccer mom told her
daughter that she would never be allowed in California because they're too liberal.

If it were that easy, I'd move there tomorrow.

8. I would rather they would focus on Arnold's main mission which is
to end the suit to regain the 9 billion which Enron, Cheney and pals stole from us and to open up protected areas to energy company exploitation. I suspect he will also do some serious union busting while in office.
Sexual harrassment like this is very difficult to prove which is why none of these women pressed charges to begin with.

13. This morning...
on the radio I heard a celebrity/gossip type guy say that Arnold's contracts stipulated that women could not sue him for sexual harassment. I can't find anything online about it and I wasn't paying close attention but if this is true it's really pathetic.

14. We can hope
that they find more women who have been assaulted by the asshole more recently. I can't believe he would suddenly stop that kind of behavior; serial sexual offenders DON'T just stop. And BTW, I cannot STAND that stupid habit he has of giving the thumbs up to the camera with that moronic grin. He disgusts me.

28. What's the statute of limitations in California?
That's the first question the groping issue activitists should be asking themselves before they wet their pants on another crusade.

If they had spent more time unmasking Arnold as a puppet of Pete Wilson and ENRON, and been more supportive of Cruz Bustamante, you wouldn't have Arnold on his way to Sacramento. But, noooooo, it was more fun to engage in the same discredited Rush Limbaugh games of Arnold's groping 20 years ago (the same thing Rush ranted about Clinton) or about Arnold's father being a nazi (the same charge the GOP leveled at former Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Clinton, General John M. Shalikashvili).

Since the remarkable admission by California Attorney General Bill Lockyer that he voted for Arnold, I doubt seriously that there is any substance to any of the allegations against Arnold, either of "quid-pro-quo" or "hostile environment" which form the basis for sexual harassment in the workplace, or that any of the allegations fall within the statute of limitations.

Refighting this issue takes energy away from fighting the upcoming privatization of California services and resources that the Arnold-Wilson administration is about to bring to California.
