Navy Wives Launch Boat Tour for Charity (Navy Welfare Fund)

WASHINGTON -- Wives and widows of nine men from Navy special operations launched a boat tour Friday to call attention to their husbands' sacrifices and raise money for other families.

Calling themselves SEAL Wives Against Terrorism (S.W.A.T.), they left midday from a Potomac River marina across the street from the Pentagon for a 300-nautical mile trip to New York.

Stops are planned in two other cities and money raised will go to an existing Navy welfare fund, they said.

The women on the boat tour are traveling on two Zodiac HomeGuard Defender boats, designed for patrolling and other homeland security missions, Defense Department officials said. They'll take turns piloting with the help of Zodiac personnel, and they plan stops in Annapolis, Md. and Atlantic City, N.J. before attending a maritime exposition Wednesday and Thursday in New York.

The money raised will go to the Naval Special Warfare Foundation.

5. Its going to the Naval Special Warfare Foundation
which is a highly suspicious name to me. If it were labeled as some kind of relief organization I would be less apprehensive about donating anything.

4. Navy associations
I belong to three of them. We provide scholarship money to help children of our unfortunate shipmates. It is a good thing. Not a lot of help, but some.
