FEMA wants $30M back (Florida)
FORT PIERCE, Fla. - FEMA, which was accused of mismanagement, fraud and wasting money after last year's four hurricanes, has asked more than 7,600 Floridians to return $30.3 million in emergency hurricane aid. <snip>

The agency has come under fire for allegedly paying millions of dollars to residents in areas unaffected by the hurricanes, while others were in need.

FEMA has refused to provide details about who received the nearly $5.3 billion in aid money paid after four hurricanes slammed the state last year. <snip>

5. Laugh away, I still think it sucks that people double-dipped
It's not as if they didn't know it, either.

A dollar paid to a scammer is a dollar that can't be paid to someone who deserves it.

Peace.

9. Wasn't bush** down there handing out checks as well? They were
paying for votes plain and simple. Now they want their money back.

My question is can these assholes who took this undeserved money take back their vote?

10. Last night on the news
a lady in her 80s had her mobile home destroyed last year. She got, some money from FEMA. I think it was $5,000. Then she got $10,000 from her insurance company and bought a new mobile home. Now FEMA wants the money back. She said she used a credit card to help purchase the mobile home. Probably, at her age and income, she could not get a loan. Not sure about that. She told them she didn't have the money to pay them back so they said they'd take her social security income.

Why is FEMA going after people like this, when they paid out huge amounts of money in Miami to people who were not even affected by the hurricanes? This poor woman, even with the FEMA payment and the insurance payment, still lost a great deal.
