2. According to Smirk this is "good" news
because it means that we have opened more schools, trained more policemen and they are "desperate" and so are attacking more. :eyes:

At this rate, the re-construction should be finished by the end of the week.

3. Late last night, CNN was showing a live feed
via the UK...this was about 1:30 AM ET.
And I wondered, gee, how come we don't get those live feeds here when things are happening during the day/evenings?
Because CNN etc are not "news" channels, they have all their little "programs" on that can't be interrupted...(Larry King, Wolfie, etc.) And because they are under orders not to show anything -- or simply afraid of "losing access" -- if they do.

Everybody but America gets CNN-I as part of their basic cable.

10. I was thinking the same thing...
...they (or maybe even one of us, through a big campaign) should just set a date where the media are all going to stop giving them a free pass; everyone does it at the same time so it's not like one outlet does it and loses access and the rest get afraid.

Though I would think Fox News/Washington Times/New York Post might not participate.

16. No details yet, one of their correspondents is on now (10:02 CST) says
they have a car driving around trying to find out where & what exploded. This is not the Red Cross incident, was in the last half hour or so.

9. I'm confused is this new?
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 10:57 AM by Ripley
At the gym this am, CNN was saying "this morning" 30 people were killed and the Red Cross was hit. I thought that actually happened yesterday. I swear they kept saying "this morning" (Monday).

So another explosion happened now? As in Monday morning our time and Monday night in Baghdad, right?

I swear the spinning is out of control. I seriously think we may hear CNN say the war is over one day and just refuse to cover it at all.

14. Well...it's Monday evening in Iraq
and the 3 bombings took place Monday morning there...but this sounds new.

And I don't know about anyone else, but I noticed CNN International (at least) couldn't have cared less about the 2 other bombings-all day it was ICRC, ICRC, ICRC!

17. Everybody in America used to snicker at the news coming from
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 11:09 AM by higher class
Communist countries. How come only people on the left snicker at our communist-style propagandist-news?

As to the date and time something happens.

I believe there are three, make that four, reasons they confuse the 'when' of when something happens.

In some instances, they can milk the news.
They think we're too stupid to know the international clock.
They may have a slow news day.
They may be too stupid or to lazy to explain the time difference or they think it is not important enough to explain.

Sometimes they make you think it was the same day for three days.

20. Yeah, I think it's "not important enough to explain."
I have discovered that CNN doesn't "do news" on the weekends. They have celebrity shows and reruns from last week and Wall St. shows. So on Monday they have to act like they REALLY are a news organization and they don't want to admit that they should have been covering this story on Sunday, but hey it might interrupt a celebrity show about Diana or George Bush Sr.

They have up to date reports about the ~shudder~ Reagan museum's status from the wildfires, but they can't have up to date reports about a war that is costing the entire country money and blood and national security?

21. And another reason--
they can camouflage the number of incidents. That is, reports of three bombings can be made to look like three reports of one bombing.

22. Well, I was there for the first Tet Offensive.
It was amazing. I was pulling guard on the perimeter of a small LZ on a hilltop. I could see fireworks going off in 4 villages as they celebrated Tet in the traditional way. Then, in one after another of the villages, the fireworks turned into firefights as red (ours or ARVN) and white (NVA) tracers started lacing the night sky. My little LZ was one of a few US compounds that weren't hit that night. Not until the next day, as radio reports started trickling in, did any of us realize how widespread the attacks were that night. In terms of scale or of massive coordination, what's happening in Iraq is no Tet.

24. Did Saddam ever use suicide bombers?
These attackers are suicide bombers, but it doesn't seem that Saddam would inspire such fanaticism even among his Elite Republican Guards (better known as the DeLay Brigade -- Oops, sorry, that's another Republican party). Ergo, this sounds like Al Qaeda. Remember them?

25. No Not Al Q Just Iraqis Pissed Off As Hell Over The Occupation
Sitting at my neighbors house tonight watching Al Jazerra we all commented that the Iraqis are using Palestinian tactics. This has squat to do with Saddam.

This is a desperate group of people deploying whatever means necessary. This is not Al Queda and this is NOT Saddam loyalists. This is the Iraqi people saying "GET THE FUCK OUT."

You folks in the US are buying into the bogey-man shit. Here on the Arab street todays violence is just another reminder that the IRAQIS, yeah them, tsk tsk will they not just go away and let the US media create another bad guy; it is not Saddam lovers, not Syrians, not Yemenis, not Iranians, or Winnie The Fucking Poohians that don't want us in fucking Iraq. It is the Iraqis.

It is simple people. The Iraqi people want the US out. Even if it means the deaths of Iraqis.

30. breaking news article
http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30200-1108852,00.html

There are unconfirmed reports of a fresh explosion in central Baghdad.

It follows a wave of bombings today that killed at least 42 people and injured more than 220.

Sky News producer Mazim Awad described the blast as a "huge explosion", possibly bigger than the previous explosion from earlier today.

He said there may have been more than one explosion.
