Bush Mum on Request for Documents from 9/11 Panel
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) refused on Monday to say whether he would turn over intelligence documents requested by a commission that is investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The so-called 9/11 commission has indicated it may subpoena the White House to gain access to the documents if they are not released within weeks.

"I will not stand for it," Thomas Kean, the commission's chairman told The New York Times over the weekend about the prospect that some information might be kept from the panel.

"That means that we will use every tool at our command to get hold of every document," Kean added.

1. Sounds as if Kean is trying to make as much noise as possible
It's a good idea, do what Wilson has done, do nto drop out of the radar screen.

11. Yeah, but let's remember, he's a Repug. This could be song and
dance, and all this furor could disappear from the radar in a couple of days. BTW, I thought Max Cleland was resigning from this commission, because he was appointed to another agency (which I found to be highly dubious, and possibly a way to get Max off the comm.)? His comments yesterday were on fire!

So what are they hiding?

Gross malfeasance?
Conspiracy and complicity?
LIHOP?
MIHOP?
All of the above?

7. What's the old Repube line about having nothing to worry about?
IF you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about.

Right? Oh yeah when it is the police busting into someone's home that seems to apply but when it deals with THE SINGLE WORST TERRORIST ACT TOWARDS THE UNITED STATES it doesn't seem as relevant.

GO get'em Keane.

4. Yeah, right.

Asked whether he would instruct his staff to turn over the materials, Bush said, "Those are very sensitive documents."

snip

Very very very sensitive.

9. Yeah, but...
it sure was fishy the way those Rose Law Firm documents turned up. I think that's WAY more important to national security.

10. A fair presumption that secrecy means impropriety
Government ought to be all outside and no inside. . . . Everybody knows that corruption thrives in secret places, and avoids public places, and we believe it a fair presumption that secrecy means impropriety.

12. What Would Wilson Know?
He was a Democrat. You can't expect me to believe that we can trust a Democratic president to know what's best for the nation and its people.

13. Way to avoid impeachment charges, Georgie
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 03:32 PM by rocknation
You'd better dig out your history book and re-read the chapter on Uncle "Tricky Dick" Nixon. All the president's men couldn't keep him together! Just like with Watergate, even the staunchest of Repubs is going to have to put serious thought into how long they can stand by the Pretzel-Dunce--espcially if they're up for re-election.

to make sure he doesn't get an anthrax letter or a car bomb in front of his house or something. Tell him to avoid small aircraft.

15. Dallas Morning News
reported the White House was "very nervous" about any of these documents being leaked or finding their way into the media - some of the documents in question being daily intelligence reports given to Bush directly. I'd guess this is not flattering information.

Or maybe the part where he says "Gee that would sure scare the pants off those damn libruls, wouldn't it? Prob'ly put the fear of Gawd in 'em. Hmmm, turn off the tape recorder Condi."

16. What's the excuse?
They haven't had a chance in the last TWO FREAKIN' YEARS to look over the documents and see what they contain? Maybe instead of taking off for vacation for weeks on end, Chimpy could spend a little time at the office looking these things over, hmmm?

Or aren't the lives of 3,000 people worth a thorough investigation?

22. The thousands of people who are the survivors and families of those
killed on 9/11, should march on the White House, and demand those documents. Can you imagine the press on that one! What's Bush going to say to THOSE people? It would kill him in the polls to ignore their demands. Those people need to get organized and proactive, and get busy. This nation needs to find out the truth, not just for the 9/11 survivors, but for all of us.
