New Evidence of Terrorist Acts Planned Against Venezuela to be Presented
<clips>

Caracas, 27 Oct.- National Assembly deputy Juan Barreto, said today that he and other deputies will soon present new evidence of "acts of terrorism against Venezuela's democracy."

"We have managed to intercept classified documents from some foreign governments who have tried to intervene in the internal affairs of Venezuela", said the assemblyman who claimed to have recordings of telephone conversations and other supporting evidence.

"We have new videos, audio-visual material and photographs that also we are going to present at the appropriate moment", said Barreto who is also a member of President Chavez’s party.

The deputy emphasized that the evidence must be carefully analyzed, "taking into account that these are tool for political debate and for denunciation, with which we cannot be playing carelessly."

1. Did you see the linked article?
Looks as if they've got a bit more than a few blurred photos of some Wackenhut employees:

The videos were filmed in July of this year in a security company. According to Maduro, the films were passed on to them by someone who disagreed with being put at the service of foreign agents. The video appears to show a meeting with police officers of the Metropolitan Police, individuals from the security company “Empresas de Vigilancia,” a staffer from the U.S. embassy, and a retired colonel of the U.S. Army.

Obviously he can't allow the Gustavo Cisneros owned and controlled tv networks, etc. to have access to these important items, Cisneros being a close friend of George H. W. Bush.

3. This is why I like Hugo Chavez.
The guy is sharp. He knows he can cause a big PR problem for Bush with this kind of info and he then plays his hand. Damning material evidence has kept a few whistleblowers from meeting an early death; what's good for an individual is good for country I guess.

All Venezuela wants is to be treated with respect.

Wonder why they don't just kick Whackemhut out of the country? France's Francois Mitterand did this if I remember correctly; he just booted their asses out.

I hope other countries faced with probs similar to Chavez are taking notes here and have the video cameras rolling, hee, hee. It is funny as hell how the portable video camera is affecting geo-politics. The dirty tricksters never know when the cameras are rolling.

4. PR problem? Hell, he could send Bush to jail.
Terrorism is a crime against humanity. If Bush is sponsoring terrorism, he needs to go to jail, like any other terrorist.

6. The BFEE has been terrorizing countries for years --terrorism is their
middle name. Just ask the Cubans, Panamanians, Nicaragans, Salvadorans, and the rest of Latin America. As much as I would like to see his sorry a$$ in jail--these pukes get away with MURDER--literally.

8. Key word is "could"
Bush is immuned to more egregiousness claims than a possible hand in Venezuela terrorism against Chavez--subpoenas from Judicial Watch, Center for Public Integrity, etc.-- and nothing happens. In the perfect world you'd have a case, but this PR thing can be very problematic for Bush because it exposes, or threatens to expose, the BFEE links to the terrorists. The more press it gets the better for Chavez and the worse for Bush.

Chavez must be careful not to overreact, like jailing Whackemhut's employees, etc.

12. By definition
"Terrorism" refers to activities by small, relatively powerless coutries or organisiations that go against the interests of very large, world-dominating, counties or organisations. Therefore, Hamas commits terrorism, Israel "actively defends itself". Any actions Hugo Chavez takes is referred to as terrorism, any action Bush takes is referred to as... is referred to as... hell, it's not referred to at all, but is totally ignored and never happened. Don't expect justice through the courts.

9. Chavez Ready to Meet Dominican Republic Head in Row
Some may remember that earlier this year Poppy Bush met for a second time with media mogul and Bush family friend Gustavos Cisneros (arch enemy of Hugo Chavez) at the Casa de Campo resort owned by the Fanjul brothers, Alfi and Jose, in the Dominican Republic. There were strong indications that Bush also met secretly with corruption-impeached former Venezuelan President Carlos Andres Perez.

CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is ready to meet his Dominican Republic counterpart Hipolito Mejia to end a row that halted Venezuelan oil shipments to the Caribbean state, a diplomat said Monday.

Venezuela, the world's No. 5 oil exporter, suspended the oil deliveries last month because it said a former Venezuelan president and oil traders were plotting from Santo Domingo to overthrow, and even assassinate, left-winger Chavez.

"Efforts are being made for the two presidents to meet ... very soon," Venezuela's ambassador to the country Francisco Belisario told Reuters in Caracas. "President (Chavez), as you know, is open to everything," he added.

Belisario said a meeting would depend on the agendas of the two leaders, but it could take place this month or in the first half of next month.

13. Found something interesting:
(snip) Cisneros, a longtime friend of former President George Bush, who had hosted Bush on a fishing trip a few months ago, heads up a corporate empire stretching from the U.S. to Patagonia. Cisneros' huge dominion is made up of DIRACTV, Venevisión, Coca Cola, and Televisa. It seems that on the afternoon of the coup , the coup makers, including Carmona, met at the Venevisión television station in Gustavo Cisneros' office,' according to opposition legislator Pedro Pablo Alcántara of the Democratic Action Party. The person who read Carmona's decree and who Carmona named as attorney-general, was Daniel Romero, who had been a private secretary to former President Carlos Andres Perez and a functionary in the Cisneros organization.

15. looks like the old adage is appropriate
pride (and arrogance) goeth before the fall

Whistleass inc has pretty much enjoyed a free pass, butt kissing and boot licking by the media for the past 3 years... It probably made him think he could do "no wrong"

but in his pride and arrogance - he "blamed" the media for his falling poll numbers

Most of the stories I've heard/watched/read come right out and report info coming from whistleass inc as SPIN

in an article early this summer (pre-Plame outing article) - Novak wrote about the arrogance of Whistleass Inc. - probably the only thing Novak and I agree on

17. The Fairness Doctrine is Alive and Well in Venezuela (I)
<clips>

The Venezuelan National Assembly is presently debating the enactment of the Law of Social Responsibility in Radio and Television (“LSRRT”), which proposes to guarantee public access to media and ensure media broadcasting during children’s viewing hours abides by socially responsible guidelines. The LSRRT was already approved by the National Assembly’s Commission on Science, Technology and Social Communications Media in May 2003<1> and should enter into final debate for passage by Venezuela’s general National Assembly before the end of the 2003 term.<2>

The LSRRT has come under heightened scrutiny and attack by international journalism organizations, including the Committee to Protect Journalists, Reporters Without Borders and watchdog groups such as Human Rights Watch<3>, who have been quick to declare the proposed law jeopardizes the vast freedom of expression enjoyed by Venezuelan journalists and citizens alike by attempting to regulate content. Yet the LSRRT does not contain any provisions that endeavor to control the content of programming on private media stations, rather, it proposes to enforce regulations concerning appropriate broadcasts during children’s viewing hours and to support independent media outlets, democratization of radio and television and public access to and participation in communications media.

Despite the outcry by private media outlets in Venezuela and groups such as Human Rights Watch and the Committee to Protect Journalists, many of the provisions and basic ideas behind the LSRRT are familiar to proponents of media reform and those aware of the legal history of communications law in the United States. In fact, the LSRRT seemingly parallels one of the most important communications policies developed during the past century in the U.S.: the Fairness Doctrine.

The obligation of broadcasters to air diverse views on public issues was first declared a policy of the Federal Radio Commission (“FRC”) in 1929, in Great Lakes Broadcasting.<4> The FRC, which predated the Federal Communications Commission, reasoned that because broadcast frequencies were limited, broadcasters were subject to a standard of “public interest, convenience and necessity” based on a duty to the listening public.<5> After two decades of confusion about the application of this fairness principle, in 1949, the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) established the twofold duty of broadcasters that became known as the Fairness Doctrine. The FCC explained that, “the needs and interest of the general public for new and diverse opinions could only be satisfied by making available to the public varying and conflicting views held by responsible members of the community.”<6> As part of the Fairness Doctrine, the FCC required broadcasters (1) to devote a reasonable percentage of airtime to the discussion of public issues and (2) to present contrasting views in the case of controversial issues of public importance.<7>

18. Recall Referendums Against Governors, Mayors and Councilmen Suspended
<clips>

Caracas, Oct 27.- National Electoral Council (CNE) president Francisco Carrasquero, announced this Monday the cancellation of the referendum process to recall state governors, mayors and councilmen, due to the high cost of the process and the proximity of the elections for such positions.

Carrasquero explained that due to the proximity of the electoral processes, to be held during the first semester of 2004, and to the high cost for the State Treasury and, in particular for the CNE, the five main representatives unanimously decided "to leave without effect the resolutions of admission to start the recall process for governors, mayors and councilmen".

The petition drive for recall referendums against National Assembly deputies will go on as planned.
