Senate panel widens speech investigation
By John Diamond / USA TODAY
WASHINGTON -- The Senate Intelligence Committee indicated Wednesday that it will widen its investigation into President Bush's disputed charges in January about Iraq's attempts to buy uranium in Africa, going beyond the CIA's responsibility to examine the White House's role in the controversy.

Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kan., said it was possible the committee would call White House officials to testify.

"We'll let the chips fall where they may," Roberts said.

It was the first indication from the Republican-controlled committee that its inquiry would go beyond the CIA's role in vetting portions of Bush's State of the Union address.

3. Well now they are going to have to broaden their scope to find out who
in the administration divulged the name of a WMD operative in ordet o pay back Wilson and threaten intel.

If David Corn's latest article is true, it will be WAY bigger than the Niger story or Watergate.

6. NSMA...Thank You!
I have seen mention of Wilson's name before but never took the time to read the articles. Since I trust your recommendations, I checked out Corn's piece. You're dead right-this could be huge -if its pursued. But then again, the publication of FORBIDDEN TRUTH last summer SHOULD have blown the top off this entire administration. I'm starting to think Shrub has a layer of Teflon as deep as that old fool Reagan's.

7. hmph. i just thought of something... what if bushco bashed the french
because of that book? what if they were trying to discredit the entire country to discredit the book just in case it ever gained momentum in the press?

its release in this country was stalled forever, remember... it was as if james hatfield had written it...

9. Oh, God...
it took MONTHS to get the book. Then the press and the puidits yawned and forgot about it. It was DAMNING for Christ's sake!...I just don't understand, it doesn't make sense. If it had been about Clinton, there would have been 78 votes to impeach in the senate the day after it was published.

10. Maybe but Forbidden Truth was TOO hot and was from a French source
There was too much that would NEVER have been investigated and couldn't be proven. This, on the other hand, can be proven, DID happen, DOES compromise security by not only placing her at risk but compromising her intel and placing her sources at risk as well. This is CLEARLY a crime. It's as good as a third rate robbery at a hotel.

4. best news I've heard all day
I still think there are a few true polititions, just like there are a few good lawyers and a couple aware business school grads!

Would love to see the truth actually come to the public on this one but am not holding my breath. Rove, Cheney, Wolfiwitze and others didn't become leaders of the biggest economy in the world by accident.

How long will they continue to ignore it, especially if a Senate inquiry digs something up?
