Were SA firms in on DRC plunder?
New York - The United Nations Security Council decides this week whether to release a controversial chapter on the plunder of minerals in the Democratic Republic of Congo, part of a report that recommends the break up of large state mining firms.

The main part of the probe from an independent panel, disclosed by Reuters on Friday, also puts the diamond giant De Beers on a list of unresolved cases. This was distributed to security council members and will be made public soon.

But another section was given to the 15 members only. UN officials feared it would wreck the peace process by its allegations against Rwanda, Uganda and parts of the Kinshasa government, cited in previous reports as heavily involved in the pillaging, diplomats said.
