GOP Attorneys General Asked For Corporate Contributions
Republican state attorneys general in at least six states telephoned corporations or trade groups subject to lawsuits or regulations by their state governments to solicit hundreds of thousands of dollars in political contributions, according to internal fundraising documents obtained by The Washington Post.

One of the documents mentions potential state actions against health maintenance organizations and suggests the attorneys general should "start targeting the HMO's" for fundraising. It also cites a news article about consolidation and regulation of insurance firms and states that "this would be a natural area for us to focus on raising money."

The attorneys general were all members of the Washington-based Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA). The companies they solicited included some of the nation's largest tobacco, pharmaceutical, computer, energy, banking, liquor, insurance and media concerns, many of which have been targeted in product liability lawsuits or regulations by state governments.

1. Pryor and Cornyn are among those named.
I hope, at the very least, complaints are filed with their state bar associations.

3. Such integrity...
Glad the adults are in charge.

Might as well call the article:

"State GOP Thugs Shakedown Troubled Corporations for Campaign Funds"

I wish someone would've run a sting on these bastards, just to see what kind of comments they were making to the company officers. I bet some damn incriminating s*it was said. Maybe we'll find out the facts someday, but since they are part of the GOP crime machine (as opposed to Dems, who would be investigated to Kingdom Come by Ashcroft himself), I won't hold my breath. This story will be the end of it. Mark my words...

4. This right wing party is as greedy as anything I have ever seen.
Their really is just to much money in Washington. Bush seems to be a master at spending others people money. They are also a brash group. They laugh at people. There was an artist that painted people like that and I have been trying to think of his name. Max something. Could it be Berkman? Rich fat greedy men with power. Makes one have bad dreams.

5. Misuse of Office is crime. The six GOP AG's are soliciting bribes.
These Republican State Attorney Generals are clearly criminals.

6. Not clearly criminals. But this is definitely unethical.
You can't solicit money from a person (even if it's through an organization of which you're a member) if are representing someone else in a legal matter to which that person is a party.

Without looking into this too much, I think it's safe to say that these AGs have probably jeopoardized their law licenses.

8. Wait a minute
if I'm not mistaken, my paramenapausal brain seems to recall a couple of incidents regarding the Republicans screaming to high heaven about Al Gore and Gray Davis "fundraising" from their offices. I don't remember specifics about the Gore alegations but with Davis, the Simon camp made the charge and it was proven false. The pictures the Simon camp had of Davis fundraising from his office was actually a picture of Davis fundraising at someone's home.

Rule of law! Rule of law! (Funny how that only applies to Democrats.)
