Rumsfeld can't recall discussing Plame

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Tuesday he could not recall if he spoke to Vice President Dick Cheney about outed CIA agent Valerie Plame.

Cheney's chief of staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was indicted by a federal grand jury last week for allegedly lying to federal agents and obstructing an investigation into the leak that revealed Plame's identity.

"How would I know if I ever spoke about it with the vice president over five years?" Rusmfeld said at a Pentagon press conference Tuesday. "I don't recall speaking with him about it, and I don't recall the department being involved. Is it possible? I mean, my goodness, that's -- that question is such a -- it's -- what is that game? Fish. Give me all your sevens or something. I mean, that's not for me."

8. One thing is for sure...
The incredible CARE AND PRECISION that this administration takes when outing a CIA agent is just amazing.

It's just so impressive. The CARE and the HUMANITY that does into the denials and the stonewalling--not to mention the initial crimes themselves.

It's just....really as impressive as anything anyone could see.

The CARE...I just can't get over the CARE and the HUMANITY of these people.

So refreshing.

Dear Rumsfeld: SHUT IT!!!!!

40. The correct phrasing is...
"I don't recall." He didn't say "I can't remember" or "I can't recall." It's "I DON'T..." "I can't remember" or "I can't recall" would not be true, and therefore would be ethically unacceptable (meaning prosecutable.)

This specific wording is precisely deliberate. If I choose not to recall, then I don't recall. Very simple. It's like they all took a course in Black Box Truth - or something like that.

29. It's scary what we're finding out
about this administration. I know I never trusted them, but I never suspected they were into torture, bestiality and child porn. Rumsfeld is an evil old man. I don't know why the press continues to laugh at his lame attempts to pull the wool over their eyes. Old habits die hard, I suppose.

I love also, how they are all claiming that we should not expect them to remember something from all those years ago (two). Why doesn't some reporter remind them that this investigation began just two months after the outing of Valerie Plame, so we're not talking 'years'.

I wonder why our Secretary of Defense would not have been so concerned when he discovered that our natiional security may have been compromised in July, 2003, that he would have called in all those involved and demanded answers himself? Surely in July of 2003, with the story so big in the news, it would have jolted his memory as to whether anyone had mentioned Valerie Plame to him? Were he really concerned about this country, it was then that he should have dealt with this.

They are all so quilty, it is so obvious. I don't see how he can't be sure that he either did or did not talk about Valerie Plame.

Libby and Rove are claiming faulty memories also. How convenient, but the way I see it, if Rummy's memory is so poor, (remember in the 9/11 hearings, he had not even bothered to talk to the pilots from Norad, years after 9/11!! No curiosity as to what went wrong on 9/11) No interest in such important threats to our National Security!

It's stunning really. And it leads you to only two possible conclusions, they are either guilty or so incompetent (Rummy was taken by surprise by Abu Ghraib also, even though he had approved of the torture) that either way, they are not fit to work at scrubbing floors, let alone be in the positions they are in. Why do we tolerate it??

37. Beats me as to why we continue to tolerate it when guilty or incompetent
are the only two explanations available. Libby can't remember. Rove can't remember. Rummy can't remember. When asked by Russert how the forgery stuff got BACK into the intelligence assessment, Dr. Rice said she forgot, too, and so did Hadley. They all forgot how they lied to America. I say, we remember.

41. Well said Catrina and many good points.
You would think a Secretary of Defense would be at least a little bit concerned about a national security breech during a time of war. I guess if you are busy trying to think up new and creative ways to skirt the law and torture people, it does not leave much time for trivial things such as national security.

The old Steve Martin routine has taken over the repukes.

Remember that old stand up routine he did years ago about how to become a millionaire?

1) get a million dollars

2) don't pay your taxes

3) when the IRS comes calling, just say, "I forgot".

And here we now have a party-wide case of amnesia. also known as group shoulder shrugging. Funny how that works.

They are despicable.

"Rumsfeld said Tuesday he could not recall if he spoke to Vice President Dick Cheney about outed CIA agent Valerie Plame."
- could not recall.

"I don't recall speaking with him about it, and I don't recall the department being involved.
- could not recall.
- could not recall, a second time.

"Is it possible? I mean, my goodness, that's -- that question is such a..."
- notice he began one of his stock rhetorical question responses, which normally would have ended as "I mean, my goodness, that's possible". But he caught himself in time, and wandered off into some pretense of senility, by talking about the game Fish.

He is a slippery psychopath.

"The fish turn in schools, as they are joined together by the sea."
