(Paris) Mayor Imposes Curfew
http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1201682,00.html

A curfew will be imposed tonight in a tough Paris suburb to prevent a "tragedy" after 11 nights of violence.

Eric Raoult, the conservative mayor of Raincy, declared an "exceptional curfew" as extra police are drafted across France to deal with any further violence.

It is the first such measure to be announced since violence first flared in neighbouring Clichy-sous-Bois.

Mr Raoult said the curfew was needed to "avoid a tragedy" and there were "notable risks for schools".

Private security workers have been hired to guard buildings and municipal officials will patrol Raincy at night, reporting suspicious incidents to police.

Meanwhile, a man who was attacked by a hooded youth while talking to a neighbour during the riots has died, becoming the first fatality of the unrest.

1. After 11 days? No rush...
If this were the typical American big city, that would have happened after one night. Not impressed with the French style of crisis management.

2. Curfew
I'm surprised this wasn't done earlier. It's a fair way to deal with the situation.

3. Parisian youths: Don't go out on the streets after dark...
Or we shall declare an exceptional curfew again.
