U.S. Overpaying Halliburton for Gas
Just saw this on Yahoo News:

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government is paying Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites)'s former firm Halliburton (NYSE:HAL - news) "enormous sums" -- $2.65 a gallon -- for gasoline imported into Iraq (news - web sites) from Kuwait, two lawmakers charged on Wednesday.

Democrats Rep. Henry Waxman of California and Rep. John Dingell of Michigan said this gross overpayment was made worse by the fact that the U.S. government was turning around and reselling the gasoline in Iraq for four to 15 cents a gallon.

In a letter of complaint sent to President Bush (news - web sites)'s national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites), the two lawmakers said experts they consulted think the cost of buying and transporting gasoline from Kuwait into Iraq should cost less than $1 a gallon.

The Iraqi oil company SOMO is paying only 97 cents a gallon to import gasoline from Kuwait to Iraq, they said."

1. Haliburton has been found guilty of this before.
They, of course, got a slap on the wrist.

2. Outrageous and unfortunately, nobody cares but us....
This is Halliburton's game, and they know how to play, having sat at this table before.
Biggest problem with "CHRISTIAN AMERICA" is that they are worshipping the idol of the free market system. In today's America, greed no longer makes the list of 7 deadly sins (to look at Jerry Fallwell or Rush Limbaugh, apparently gluttony has been dropped as well).
The Gordon Gecko mentality is alive and well with the Repugnicans - greed is good (so long as it's not poor people, greedily demanding wages that would allow them to pay the rent AND eat...)
FARGING BASTIGES!!!!

3. Why is Iraq importing oil?
I thought they had one of largest reserves in the world and that Rummie made sure our troops protected the oil fields. I know we can't get the oil to flow out of the country through the pipelines but in country it shouldn't matter.

Keep in mind Iraq has some of the best oil in the world and the cheapest to get out of the ground, about a dollar a barrel. That is why they US coveted their oil so much. The fact that Halliburton is importing oil from Kuwait and then bilking the US taxpayers for it just shows what greedy pigs they really are.
