Taliban behead two civilians, kill seven Afghan police
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AFP) - Militants loyal to Afghanistan's ousted Taliban regime killed seven Afghan police and beheaded two civilians in the country's insurgency-hit south, a provincial governor said.

The policemen were killed in an ambush Wednesday on a three-vehicle convoy on a highway between Uruzgan province and Kandahar, a former Taliban hotbed, Uruzgan governor Jan Mohammad told AFP on Thursday.

One of the vehicles escaped the ambush but two were destroyed.

"Seven police were killed on the spot and two are missing. The two vehicles were destroyed as well," Mohammad said.

1. 7 Police Killed in New Afghan Violence
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Rebels killed seven police officers and abducted two after ambushing them on a road in southern Afghanistan, while two villagers were abducted and beheaded, officials said Thursday.

Two U.S. soldiers, meanwhile, were wounded when an Afghan army officer opened fire on them at a joint base in eastern Paktia province Wednesday, Gen. Rahmatullah Raofi said. The American forces returned fire and killed the Afghan officer.

He said it was not immediately clear why the officer fired at the troops. A U.S. military spokesman in Kabul said he had no information on the incident.

The police were driving in three vehicles on a road toward Kandahar, the former Taliban stronghold in southern Afghanistan, when they were attacked Wednesday in Shah Wali Kot district, said Jan Mohammed Khan, a local governor.

You know, that little fairy tale about how it's such a model of how we're spreading democracy and freedom?

6. huh? Nothing has changed. Burlap is king. You think Dubya gave a shit?
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 08:31 AM by thebigidea
do you honestly think anything about the Afganistan "operations" involved taking them "out of the 12th century?"

or was that some kind of sarcasm I missed due to sleep depravation?

A bunch of corrupt drug dealing warlords running things and keeping women in burlap isn't exactly progress.

13. Funny. Yes, let's HELP them by melting them with whitephosphorous
and napalm so that they learn not to end their barbaric ways. And let's bring our Christian Taliban to their country so we can HELP them by torturing them in our own style for violations of OUR wacked rules.

DUH! Swallow propaganda much?

Did I say I was rooting for the Taliban or "agreeing" with them? Uh, no I did not. I was merely pointing out another lie by the idiot in the WH who has no grasp of reality.

11. its the same "you love Saddam!" argument
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 08:48 AM by thebigidea
If you hate A) then you must love B) - even if you explicitly state that you think both A) and B) are complete shits, and things have not only not improved, but they've gotten worse.

pretty pathetic, really.

8. If we hadn't diverted a good deal of our military resources
to Iraq, we could have properly secured Afghanistan. Maybe we could have even *gasp* caught Bin Laden.
