Suicide Attacks Target Afghan Peacekeepers

Associated Press Writer

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Two separate suicide attackers rammed
explosives-laden cars into vehicles belonging to NATO-led peacekeepers
in the Afghan capital Monday, killing at least one NATO soldier and
wounding two other troops and six Afghans, police said.

The bombings occurred within 90 minutes of each other on a 500-yard
stretch of road near the headquarters of organizers of September's
legislative elections.

It was not clear if there were casualties from the second blast. An
Associated Press photographer saw a jeep from the International
Security Assistance Force on fire. Police at the scene said a car
rammed into the ISAF vehicle before it exploded.

A local police commander, Pashtun, who uses only one name and was at
the scene of the first blast, said the soldiers were German, although
this could not immediately be confirmed.

KABUL, Afghanistan Nov 14, 2005 — Suicide bombers rammed cars filled with explosives into NATO peacekeepers in two attacks in the Afghan capital Monday, killing a German soldier and an Afghan child and wounding at least a dozen other people the first major assault on foreign troops in Kabul in more than a year.

Troops thwarted a suspected third bombing by shooting dead three people in a car racing toward the scene of the blasts. Such seemingly coordinated attacks are unprecedented in Afghanistan, and reinforced fears that Taliban insurgents are copying tactics used in Iraq.

The bombings occurred within 90 minutes of each other on a 500-yard stretch of road near the headquarters of Afghan-U.N. election organizers. In each case, the attackers rammed their cars into NATO vehicles. snip

2. Four dead in suicide attacks on NATO troops in Afghanistan
KABUL (AFP) - Two apparent suicide car bombers targeted NATO peacekeepers in Afghanistan's capital, killing a German soldier and three Afghans and wounding other troops and civilians, officials said.

The attacks happened around 90 minutes and a few hundred metres (yards) apart on the road from Kabul to the eastern city of Jalalabad, near the offices of the agency which oversaw key parliamentary elections in September.

In a third incident, troops from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force opened fire on a station wagon as it sped towards the scene of one of the earlier blasts, wounding one of the occupants.

"A civilian and one German soldier from ISAF were killed in the first explosion, and one woman and one child in the second one," interior ministry spokesman Yousuf Stanizai told AFP.

3. Oh yeah, Afganistan...
Thought we won that one long ago. At least, so I've been told.
