Iran lends support to Syria over U.S. pressure

DAMASCUS, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Iran backed Syria on Monday in its rift with the United Nations over cooperation with an inquiry into the killing of a former Lebanese prime minister and called for confronting U.S. "dubious moves" in the Middle East.

"We declare our support for uncovering the truth vis-a-vis the assassination of Mr. Rafik al-Hariri and I have seen that the officials in Syria support this issue in a good way," Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said after talks with President Bashar al Assad in Damascus.

"We pin our hope that the investigation team continues its work on a pure legal foundation and does not work on politicising the investigation."

2. Gee, I guess Syria should be happy that they have IRAN'S support!

Especially after the "wipe the Jews off the face of the Earth" comment made by Mr. Ahmedinajed (sp?) last week...

Still - I find it interesting that Bolton & Co. have their collective knickers in a bunch over this assassination and there has never been UN investigations into the assassinations in 2003 of many prominent Palestinian leaders like Islamic Jihad's Muhammed Sidr, Abdullah Qawasmeh of Hamas, Fayez Al Sadr, head of Hamas' Qassem Brigades, or the senior Hamas political leader in Gaza, Abdel-Aziz Rantisi...

Even more interesting is the OUTRAGE (especially in US newspapers)regarding all the suicide bombings against Israelis in 2003...how can they forget this ONE FACT:

http://www.counterpunch.org/niva08272003.html
"This pattern can be traced to Islamic Jihad's first suicide bombings in 1994 and 1995 which it claimed as responses to the Israeli assassinations of its senior and founding leaders Hani Abed and Fathi Shiqaqi. When Hamas launched its second bus bombing campaign in 1996 following Israel's assassination of its bombing mastermind Yehiya Ayash, known as "the Engineer," the potential for such assassinations to provoke a suicide bombing was well established."

Violence BEGETS Violence, perhaps?
