KSU won't discipline student over protest
Thursday, November 17, 2005

-- ...

David Airhart, 24, now a Kent State student, last month unfurled a "Kent Ohio 4 Peace" banner atop a rock-climbing wall that was part of a military recruitment event on campus...

The Kent State Anti-War Committee celebrated the announcement Wednesday, claiming the university bowed to a public outcry over potential discipline of Airhart...

Airhart, who was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 2004 as a lance corporal, said at a news conference Wednesday that he saw Iraqi civilians killed, that some of his fellow Marines died from errant and unintentional attacks from U.S. forces, and that the war serves no point.

He said he will continue to protest military recruitment drives that take place on campus...

1. Good for Airhart
I wonder if Kent State decided it didn't need any more negative publicity about anti-war protestors, or if the military thought it wise not to press the matter, since the fellow was a veteran and had been to Iraq and was telling it like it is....

4. KSU ..... was full of shit back in
1970 and it is now. It only altered what it was going to do this time because of pressure.

I did my B.A.'s in psych and philosophy at KSU and was there from '68 thru '75. Kent was always predominantly a campus full of conservatives. But I am glad they backed off on Airhart. Hope he keeps it up. Screw the conservatives and screw the freepers. I felt that then. I feel that now.

5. I'm glad for him
He's been in Iraq, knows what's going on, and is speaking out about it. More power to him.
