Al-Zarqawi likely alive, commander says

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - A top U.S. commander in Iraq said Tuesday he has "absolutely no reason" to believe the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, died in a weekend raid in Mosul.

Lt. Gen. John Vines, chief of the Multi-National Corps Iraq, also confirmed that U.S. officials have the ability to determine if al-Zarqawi was there.

"I am told that there is a DNA database of some of his relatives that is able to be compared against some of those who were killed there," Vines told reporters. "If he had been in one of those houses that were part of the objective, we could confirm that."

...

Vines also staunchly refused to outline a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

5. You betcha. It's too late in the game to invent a new villain to blame
for the bombings and murders still ahead, waiting to be accomplished.

No doubt it was al-Zarqawi who destroyed Fallujah, slaughtering all the men, women, children who had nowhere to go to escape. He's also probably the one who melted them with white phosophorous.

7. And on the third day, he rose again from the dead....
And again, and again, and again!!! Such a feline fellow!!!

They've tried to make him into a boogeyman, but it's getting a bit absurd. How many near escapes can he have before people start smelling the bullshit?

8. Monday the state department was saying they were awaiting
results from attacks on Mosul to determine if al-Zarqawi was one of the dead. On Tuesday comes word that he is not among the dead. Then the state department says he is probably in Baghdad. It's nice to know they have a firm grasp of his whereabouts. Mosul, Kirkuk, Baghdad, whatever, it's all the same.
