Canadian economy dims
The Canadian economy contracted by 0.7 per cent in August, its biggest decline since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks sent shockwaves around the globe, Statistics Canada said Friday.

The historic power outage in Ontario -- which accounts for about 42 per cent of the overall economy -- was blamed for much of the monthly decline.

"The weakness in the economy was widespread, with most industries reporting slight to sharp declines in output," the government agency said.
