BBC (Saturday): US to speed up Iraq power transfer
From the BBC Online
Dated Saturday November 1

US to speed up Iraq power transfer

US deaths in post war Iraq are greater than during the conflict
The chief US administrator in Iraq has said he wants to accelerate the handover of authority to Iraqis.
Paul Bremer told a news conference in Baghdad he wanted to give Iraqis a "path and a timeline" for the transfer of power from the US-led coalition.
He also said the coalition would double the size of the Iraqi Civil Defence Force by next March and accelerate the training of Iraqi soldiers and police . . . .
There has been an increase in the number of attacks on US-led troops in Iraq recently but Mr Bremer said he had no clear indication that Saddam Hussein was behind them.

It's not like the Bushies have any real choice. Half of the army's combat divisions are tied up in Iraq on occupation duty following an invasion that had nothing to do with battling terrorists. The question is whether the Bushies want to catch Osama or whether they want to invade another resource rich country.

More to the point, to which Iraqis does Bremer want to transfer power? Does he mean real Iraqis who will govern Iraq for the benefit of the people and be resposnsible to them? Or does he mean quislings like Chalibi who will govern Iraq for the benefit of transnational corporations and be responsible to the Bushies?

1. Bremer can no more deliver this than he can deliver peace...
or Saddam or the terrorists heads. The Shiites aren't going to wait much longer before they begin taking things into their own hands. This is going to be a long, hard, BLOODY slog.

2. Is that "faux" transfer of power to happen before or after the Bush ...
puppets have sold Iraq's resources and assets to their buddies? I bet it will be after.

3. A timeline is what the UN was begging for
Why didn't Bremer deliver a timeline for transfer of authority a few weeks ago?

4. Didn't the reports that Bush said he wanted no more death
at March of next year for the election? Interesting. They'll get their timeline. And if the idiot wins in November, they will get excuses as to why we can't pull out. Then the draft will come on Wednesday after the election and in 2005 we'll be off fighting Syria and/or Iran or whomever is next on the list.

Afghanistan didn't have free and fair elections. Since WW2 the US has not alllowed free and fair elections of anyone but extremely pro-US governments. More lies.

5. This is exactly what the French were asking for
This will all be structured to happen in time for the election, but not before they have looted and bought up all the assets.

BushCo will declare victory, but Iraq will be in worse shape than before and the UN will eventually have to go in to clean up the mess.

6. My thoughts exactly
It isn't the safety of the troops that matter to this misadministration, it is all election timing! If Bushco. gets one military vote in 04 I will be shocked.

7. Expect him to get 99% of the military vote
Servicepeople may be furious, but I suspect they would rather die under Bush than live under a Democratic president. We are not talking about a caste that is accustomed to voting its interests.
