Car Rams Miss. Arena During Bush Speech

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- A car penetrated the security perimeter around the arena where President Bush was speaking Saturday and rammed the building. Authorities swarmed the vehicle.

The president's motorcade was still parked at the DeSoto Civic Center, and Bush was preparing to leave the arena where he had given the first of four campaign speeches scheduled for Saturday.

Fewer than five minutes after the car crashed at a slow speed into a loading dock area at the arena, Bush's motorcade left for his next stop, in Paducah, Ky.

2. What if the car had been packed with explosives?
This would have been a major security lapse on the part of Bush's security detail.

5. Presidential assasinations are never funny
no matter who the president is when it happpens.
I hate seeing coments like that on DU because it give ammo to the likes of Tucker Carlson, Johah Goldberg and the other screeching
anti-Dem crusaders.
I'm sure it was made as a joke, but I hope ther mods remove it.

33. I wouldn't find it funny
And I'd never encourage someone to do it. But if Bush or any of his peers die, I'll hardly shed a tear. Depending on who and under what circumstances, I'd even be tempted to celebrate that much less evil in the world.

9. The issue is...
if this was an assassination attempt...WHO is behind it?
A deranged individual? An organization? A "terrorist" group?
Or is it an inside job?

Imagine if something would have happened to shrub...the consequences
could be rather serious.
They could spin it to such an extent, i.e., "terrorist attack"
against the leadership of the US that martial law would be imposed
in the blink of an eye.
And guess WHO gets to control all this: Cheney...and his PNAC
cronies...

Dunno folks...things of this nature can cause unforeseen
consequences that could change this country and the world.

And then you have the possibility of a stage "successful" assassination attempt.
Nightmare scenario.

Newsday - Car Rams Miss. Arena Where Bush Speaking

<snip>SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- A car penetrated the security perimeter around the arena where President Bush was speaking Saturday and rammed the building. Authorities swarmed the car with weapons drawn and took away the driver, a woman, and three children who were with her.

<snip>The woman was not immediately identified. A witness, Linda Neeley, 40, a teacher from Horn Lake, Miss., said the children, all boys, were about 10 years old.

She and other witnesses said the woman drove a gray Toyota Camry through a parking lot on same side of the DeSoto Civic Center as the president's exit. The car jumped the curb, drove through a gate where press buses had just left and into the side of the building near a loading dock.

Police rushed the car immediately and dragged out the woman and children. She was handcuffed and all three were taken away. Local law enforcement officials detained the suspect, Duffy said.

But... was she wearing a burka?

7. I would NEVER, EVER, EVER want Bush to be harmed...
in any way by an intended assasin... Even those who believe this belief to be "Pollyanna-inspired," should subscribe to the more pragmatic viewpoint-- that to have such an event occur would only garner Bush sympathy, or worse, give the Repugs the martyr they have so long (seemingly) craved.

You can postulate all you want about what a Rep. would say about this but we have the cold hard fact that this was posted by YOU. There is no assumption, there is no if. I just hope when you rant like this in public you don't identify yourself as a Dem.

29. Maybe that's the problem with Dems
they don't rant enough and you damned right that was posted by me and I am a Democrat and I intensely dislike bush and I feel for this woman and her kids regardless of what her "persuasion" is - and do I feel anything for the miserable man inside the area - not only no, but hell no. And yes I will rant in public if I feel like it and I am one helluva Democrat and if you don't have the guts to stand up and say what you feel in public, then who is the Democrat and who is the Republican. This has nothing to do with this incident but you went on a rant there so I'll go on one too - and yes he is "Slimy Shrub"

Investigators so far have no indication a Franklin woman intended to do anything to President Bush when she sped through a Manchester Airport security checkpoint last week, officials said yesterday.

Screaming Woman Rams Car Into Arena at Bush Rally
36 minutes ago

-snips-

Bush was in his limousine ready to leave the arena when the screaming woman hit the same side of the building, near the exit the president's motorcade was to use.

Employees of the DeSoto Civic Center said they ran away from the crash, scared that it was an attempted car bombing.

30. Strange alibi:
She had been up late arguing with her husband ...
Was late for an appointement ...
Couldn't get through all the blockades fast enough ...
So she crashes into the building where Bush is speaking.

Makes a lot of sense to me (NOT).

32. She lost it because of the blockades.
This was not an assassination attempt. Quote from the article:

'Mixon, a nurse's aide and the mother of three sons, had been under stress recently because of marital problems and a hysterectomy, said her friend Amy Graves, of Walls.

"She just snapped," Graves told the DeSoto Times for its online edition Saturday.

Another friend, Lisa Jones, told the paper the incident was "absolutely not" politically motivated. "She is not that type of person," Jones said. '

The reason why she snapped? The unbelievable amount of security that needs to be erected to protect Shrub's delicate lily-white ass:

But the Sheriff's Department official said the woman had been awake all night arguing with her husband, was late for the event and grew increasingly frustrated as she was turned away from the building at checkpoint after checkpoint.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&e=2&u=/nm/20031101/ts_nm/bush_security_crash_dc

They must have sealed off the surrounding area for miles.

35. What is going on here??
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 04:40 PM by LiberalFighter
The sheriff's department charged the woman, Betina Mixon, 29, with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

There is no mention of any cop being assaulted by any means!!!
Trying to rig a charge against her?

After interviewing Mixon, investigators determined she had "no direction of interest toward the president whatsoever," Ann Roman, a Secret Service spokeswoman, told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Then what is the problem??

Graves and federal officials said Mixon was trying to locate her mother-in-law, who was attending the rally.

Our local paper has her being arrested for trespassing.

40. if it was a 'screaming' American-Muslim? but, since it's a bushie
and her mother-in-law was at shrub's fund-raiser...there's a real good chance that they will just let this pResidential assassin go loose to terrorize others, like any good reTHUGlican....

remember when john hinkley actually got through security and SHOT reagun??? hinkley's brother was just having dinner with neil bush (the shrub's brother) in Evergreen, Colorado....so what happened to reTHUGlican presidential assassin, hinkley?....couldn't execute hinkley, family friend of the bushies....so, hinkley lives today in a mental health institution, where he can have visits, walk around the grounds, and come out into the community with attendents, doesn't have to work...

38. God forbid she gets detoured because of a marathon
or a bicycle race or even a parade. If she can't handle a simple checkpoint she needs mental help.

The kids' grandma was there inside, and she said she wanted to get her kids somewhere safe," Graves said. "I think she wanted to try to get her to get the kids so she could go and try to hurt herself."

I think that proves my point. The checkpoints had very little to do with it, as did Bush's "lily-white ass". (which I find to be a racist statement, much like "coal-black ass" would be.)
