Bush urges DeSoto crowd to support Barbour's bid to unseat Mississippi gov
http://www.timesrecordnews.com/trn/home/article/0,1891,TRN_5670_2394769,00.html
President George Bush worked the less-than-filled DeSoto Civic Center crowd into a frenzy Saturday with talk of a new Mississippi under Republican gubernatorial candidate Haley Barbour, "the Almighty" and war.

1. OH crap
What kind of Mississippi are they talkin' bout?

I hope this is not the kind of Mississippi they are talking about.

Mr. Babour is haning out with the Council of Conservative Citizens, a racist group. They run fundraisers for all White Schools in the South.

3. Notice that every guy in that photo is a white-haired old dude?
That, my friend, is the OLD Mississippi--not the one in which I live in now.

Haley Barbour will turn the clock back for this state. We are working our asses off to keep Musgrove IN. If Barbour is elected, I will stay here just long enough to finish my PhD, and then I am getting the hell out.

We suffered enough under 4 years of Fordice...can't go through that again.

8. Good luck to you! You have nothing but support for this fight!
Too bad I'm in California. Good luck! This race is important.

I really don't like what's been happening lately, across America, and hope it isn't a trend...

5. Oh, the paradox!
The picture above of Barbour with old-school racists runs diametrically to the photo op of Bush holding a black child, the very black child who would be excluded from the schools Barbour supports. Someone please explain to my who NO ONE has caught on to this and run with it!!

How the hell can bush be such an avid supporter of Barbour and NOT condone his racist values? How the hell can a black parent allow this racist-by-association president to hold their child? NAtional level democrats need to SEIZE on this!!

14. Bush exploits racism for his political benefit.
Bigots and racists are a significant part of the republican base. That is why the Bush campaign spread the rumor during the 2000 South Carolina primary that John McCain had a "nigger daughter." http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a=2003/1/6/225209

Republicans need the bigot and racist vote.

7. Ask these 42 Democrats
Mississippi Democrats back Barbour

Haley Barbour, former Republican Party national chairman, yesterday won endorsements from four prominent Mississippi Democrats in his quest to unseat Democratic Gov. Ronnie Musgrove next month.

A victory by Mr. Barbour in the Nov. 4 election would help Mississippi Republicans maintain momentum in their drive to dominate politics in the once-overwhelmingly Democratic state, said state Republican Party Chairman Jim Herring.

The White House and the national Republican Party are closely watching the race. State party leaders hope that a Barbour victory will help the Republicans draw even with Democrats in the state Senate and add enough Republican seats in the Democrat-run House to sustain vetoes by Mr. Barbour should he occupy the governorship.

Check out Barbour's web-site with proud photos of these proud Democrats! :puke:

Democrats From Across Mississippi Endorse Haley Barbour

(Jackson, Miss.)—Democrats from all across Mississippi endorsed Haley Barbour’s campaign for Governor today at the State Capitol in Jackson.

Barbour was joined by about forty well-known Democrats from all across the state including former Lt. Governor Brad Dye, former Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Jim Roberts, former Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Lenore Prather and others.

“The Democrats standing with me today are symbolic of Democrats—and Independents—from all over the state who are supporting me and I’m very grateful for their support,” Barbour said. “When I announced my campaign, I stated that my administration—like my campaign—will be bipartisan and biracial. Democrats across the state are supporting my campaign because I’ve stayed focused on issues. I’m addressing problems and offering solutions and I’m willing to pursue opportunities for Mississippi to reach its full potential.”

Former Democrat Lt. Governor Brad Dye stated, “If you follow what Governor Ronnie Musgrove has been saying in his misleading TV ads, then you’d have to say that Brett Favre and Steve McNair are not Mississippians either. If you listen to Governor Musgrove, people who work in construction, sales, or on offshore oil rigs are not Mississippians either—even though they live here. Senator Thad Cochran knows both candidates for Governor and he knows when someone is telling the truth or not. That’s why Senator Cochran is asking people to vote for Haley Barbour.”

12. As Rowdyboy and I have BOTH said in past posts on this topic...
99% of those "prominent Mississippi Democrats" are wash-ups.

That doesn't concern ME at all, but I worry about uninformed Democrats using that info as a reason to vote Repub.

4. This state historically votes Dem on statewide and local elections...
Let's pray that it stays that way.

Also, keep in mind that De Soto County is a Delta County with a heavy black population.

I am sure that the people who were there were not representative of the population from which they emanate.

11. What I find amazing is that AP and big newspaper polls here...
show Barbour ahead by 5 pts with a 4-pt margin of error.

Yet I have talked to NO ONe, REPUB OR DEM, who plans to vote for him.

And the most participants who have been called in one of these polls is 643 (+/-) and that is not even an adequate sample size. Plus, you have the silent group, as far as phone polls go, the people who don't HAVE phones or who now use cellulars instead of landlines. These people, especially the ones who don't have phones, are more likely to be Democrats--people who can't afford to have a phone and who live in impoverished areas of the state that have strong Dem bases.

They aren't being counted, but they are being told, "Why bother going to vote? Barbour is going to win, so just stay home." This is why I HATE polls--part of their purpose is to tell people how to think.

13. I wish I could be more optimistic, but the Tupelo Daily Journal
even endorsed Barbour. It has often been one of the more moderating voices in an extremist state. I don't know why they did. What I hope is that the race will be thrown back in the house as it was last time, and Musgrove will win.

Everyone keep their fingers cross for poor ole whupped down Mississippi. Hell, we shoot ourselves in the foot time and time again.

15. The Commercial Appeal endorses Musgrove
The Memphis paper covers readership in traditionally Republican Desoto County and northwest counties of MS. It is a paper that traditionally leans conservative and Republican. At least there are some sane editorial boards left.
