(CBS) NORTHLAKE, Ill. Anti-war protestors are demonstrating this morning outside the funeral for a solider from the western suburbs killed in Iraq.

Army Private Christopher Alcozer was killed in an attack on his patrol north of Mosul earlier this month.

Friends and family gathered at a church in Northlake to honor his memory.

The 21-year-old from Villa Park was home on leave this fall and was recently engaged to his high school sweetheart before returning to Iraq.

They stated that there was some anti war group from NW Indiana there but also were investigating the Phelps group being there as well. They said the story at the website has been changed "to remove any description of the protestors" until they can investigate the story further. I guess we shall see. It's a good feeling that one man at a computer can indeed make a small dent in the media.
On edit- They did indeed change the story to say "anti war and anti gay groups". Good for them.

It appears to me that what you have isn't reliable information. In fact, I would venture a guess that it was provided by a pro-war group in an attempt to discredit the anti-war movement.

I would think it would be in the interest of honest and accurate journalism if you were to verify who attended before you run an article rather than after. Real journalism consists of verifying facts before you publish them.

We have just gotten off the phone with the organizer of "The Northwest Indiana Coalition Against The War" and confirms his group attended the funeral. While he confirmed he saw protestors there, they were not from his group because his group does not protest.

Thanks to you, we have updated our story to include the fact that an anti-gay group was at the event, but it does not make our previous story incorrect that an anti-war group was at the event, since there was.


Did he even read his original article?

The original article said they were DEMONSTRATING. Not that they attended.

protest gays at a solders funeral? Was the solder (who was engaged to his high school sweetheart) rumored to be gay? It wouldn't surprise me because Phelps tried to put a plaque in a Boise city park stating that "Matthew Shepard is Burning in Hell". ( Matthew Shepard was a gay victim of a fatal hate crime in Laramie, Wyoming) He(Phelps) claimed had has a right to do so because the Boise park already had a plaque with The Ten Commandments inscribed. Then the Boise City Counsel voted to have The Ten commandments moved to private property.
