Poll: Most doubt plan for Iraq victory
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 01:11 AM by ECH1969
As President Bush launched a new effort Wednesday to gain public support for the Iraq war, a new poll found most Americans do not believe he has a plan that will achieve victory.

Among poll respondents, 55 percent said they did not believe Bush has a plan that will achieve victory for the United States in Iraq; 41 percent thought he did. Just 35 percent wanted to set a specific timetable for their exit, as some critics of the war have suggested.

Asked about Bush's handling of the Iraq war, 54 percent said it was poor, while 44 percent thought he was doing a good job.

Asked if the war will make the United States safer from terrorism in the long run, 48 percent said yes and 43 percent no, within the poll's sampling error.

1. 44 percent have their head up their ass if they think this jerk is doing a
good job.

3. This will buy them a few more weeks.
"Look, the persons disapproving of the Iraq policy dropped from 68 to just 55 percent! And more Americans think we are safer now than not! So we are winning the battle for public opinion!"

Until the next string of diasters.

4. Yeah. Hope springs eternal,
doesn't it? You really have to wonder about the polls & the pollees.

**Personally, I think it's all a bunch of lies. I think Bush's real numbers are actually around 10% approval rating.

That's why they're scrambling to "fix things" over there. Otherwise - they wouldn't give a shit.

5. Face it - polls are a pretty crappy basis for decisionmaking
From what I see they typ. involve a few thousand "enlightened" (magical?) souls (usual claimed margin of error 3-5%). Are the respondents voters? Do they blog? Have they any interest in factual NEWS (versus what they might get from the daily paper, Fox, and Today show)? The polls never tell us any of that.

My understanding is that the US has an abysmally low percentage of active voters for a supposed democracy.

My supposition is that there is a good 25-30% of the potential voting population that doesn't or can't think for themselves. They "need" a Robertson or other "charismatic" person to help them get past the difficulty of all the decisions modern life requires. Mama help me!

The question is how many of these lemmings get to the voting booth. (Well, ok, there is that other question of whether, how, and if their vote gets counted.)

In other words, do not take polls too seriously - and believe that there are opportunities to transcend them if we can either educate, confuse, or distract that 25-30% (or whatever horrible # it might be). Bush of course has been intent on the latter two options.

8. More importantly.........
"The poll conducted Wednesday does not directly reflect how Americans are reacting to Bush's speech, because only 10 percent of the 606 adult Americans polled had seen it live and two-thirds had not even heard or read news coverage about it."

This is the most revealing comment in the article. Only 10% of the people are even listening to the asshat any more.
