Sting Urges World to Help Rebuild Iraq
British rock star Sting on Sunday denounced the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, and urged the world to help reconstruct the war-ravaged nation.

"I wasn't in favor of going into Iraq," the 52-year-old singer said at a news conference in Hong Kong promoting his latest album, "Sacred Love."

Sting said world leaders should now concentrate on picking up "the pieces" and giving the Iraqi people a normal life.

"It's too late to blame anybody. It's too late to complain," he said.

1. fuck sting
the rest of the world shouldn't have to lift one damn finger...this isn't their war

america/uk/australia/spain/poland are the fuckers who wanted this war...they should pay.

and the people in the uk/australia/spain I know for a fact were against this...lets see some fucking heads of state roll.

If I were any leader of a country I wouldn't help until all these leaders who wanted the war were removed from power and locked in a jail cell.

succinct and to the point. Bush & Co effing broke Iraq, they should effing fix it! We should demand that THEY break into their trust funds and take care of it.

7. the only thing that
will be broken into is the American taxpayer's pockets. Bush will NEVER face a trial. Did Johnson, Kissinger, McNamara? No US president will ever allow another to be brought before an international court.

On a more practical level, do we want what is best for the Iraqi people, which is in my opinion, to get their country up and running, or do wwe just want to screw Bush? What if we can't do both?

9. I agree with Forgethell
Excellent point, Forgethell.

There will be no justice for Bush. We must put aside our hatred for neocons and think about what is due Iraqis: a rebuilt country, restored lives and livelihoods.

Sure, we taxpayers will be screwed. Nothing we can do about that now. But let it be a lesson to all Americans that instant-gratification wars are very expensive, and there is a high price to be paid for driving around in SUVs with flags flapping.

3. I agree with Sting...
He's speaking of the average Iraqi, the ones who are caught in the crossfire. Although I disagree that it's too late to complain or blame anyone. There needs to be an understanding why this war took place (Bush) and it needs to be trumpeted so we can get him out of power.

I sure wouldn't go and I'd never send anyone who I care for there either! I would never tell someone to do something I wouldn't do myself!

5. But Santana was right on...
The article got it wrong, but Santana got it right. (He did not "echo" Sting's comments...)

<snip>
Sting's comments echoed Latin guitarist Carlos Santana's anti-war message late Saturday at a Hong Kong rock concert.

Ten songs into his 90-minute performance, Santana asked the crowd for 30 seconds of silence to condemn President Bush's foreign policy...

8. Santana rocks.
Sending a loud message with 30 seconds of silence. Brilliant. His sound is always unmistakable, even when it is silent.

12. I hate Sting's whole even handed-let's see both sides attitude.
We know who's responsible. We know who has to fix it. End of story.

Iraqi's will see little if any benefit. That $87 billion is going straight into the pockets of Bush's cronies and we all know it. That's what the war is about. Sting doesn't know what he's talking about.

14. So why isn't Sting-y doing a show in Iraq then?
could it be that he's afraid he would get his ass blown to hell? OK Stingy, when I see "the concert for the Iraqi people" held in Baghdad, I may give your flapping lips more cred.

15. Too late to blame anyone? Empty the world's prisons!
Why should people be held accountable for their actions a few months laters?

Why not let everyone in prison go free using Sting's logic?

What a stupid comment.
