Bush Agrees to Furnish Iraq Intelligence
WASHINGTON - The White House reversed itself and promised the Senate Intelligence Committee access to all materials requested for its inquiry into prewar intelligence on Iraq (news - web sites), the committee chairman said Sunday.

The CIA (news - web sites) and the State Department already turned over large quantities of documents ahead of the committee's deadline last Friday and more material is coming, said Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan.

White House acquiescence, on behalf of the National Security Council, came to committee staff members late Friday along with notification from the Pentagon (news - web sites) that it also would cooperate, Roberts said on CNN's "Late Edition."

The committee's top Democrat, Sen. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, said he wants "to see the documentation before ... I'm satisfied. I want to know that we really have it in hand."

4. Oh, swell.
How much of it will be blacked out? How much of it will have gone through the shredder by now? How many meetings have been held to get everyone on the same page of the same lie?

And notice how word came on FRIDAY afternoon (news dump)to minimize the media coverage of this "earth shaking reversal."

Is it too early in the season for a hearty "Bah, Humbug," yet?

5. Glad to hear Rockefeller's skepticism
I expect what they'll get is a bunch of pages with heavy black magic-marker lines across everything but articles and prepositions.

Followed up by deeply-wounded protestations that the voluntary, unprecedented cooperation offered by this executive branch is not being appreciated by the partisans on the committee.

9. Exactly.
And notice how the Republican committee leader "had not had the chance to call Rockefeller over the weekend to report the latest development," so the committee's leading Democrat just made himself look like an idiot. Has Roberts been assimilated?

13. Headlines 'Bush Agrees' makes me sick! Junior doesn't have enought brains
to decide to release this info! Everyone knows this. Junior was told by lawyers/aides to release it because the damage to him would be too great if not released.

When will the media start telling the truth.

Honest reporting would name the lawyers/aides who told Junior to release it.

17. Does this mean he'll give up docs to 9/11 commission too?
The Kean Commission is still trying to get Bush's daily intelligence briefing before 9/11. It will be more difficult to argue executive privilege or national security before Kean's commission if he's already relinquished classified info to Congress.

22. Senator, U.S. Disagree on Iraq Inquiry
More stonewalling and lies. Looks like their "cooperation" was greatly blown out of proportion. When will the corporate media ask "WHAT ARE YOU HIDING?".

Mon Nov 3, 3:22 AM ET
By WILLIAM C. MANN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee expects the White House to give the panel access to all materials it sought for its inquiry into prewar information on Iraq (news - web sites). A spokesman for President Bush (news - web sites) indicates he shouldn't be so sure.

Both Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., and White House spokesman Trent Duffy spoke Sunday of "a spirit of cooperation" regarding the documents. That's where agreement seemed to end.

Roberts said White House aides told committee staff members late Friday of acquiescence, on behalf of the National Security Council, to the committee's demands. The Pentagon (news - web sites) also said it would cooperate, Roberts said on CNN's "Late Edition."

The committee had set a deadline of noon last Friday.

While agreeing on a new spirit in relations with the committee, Duffy, with Bush in Crawford, Texas, said he could offer no concrete promises and refused to confirm Roberts' assertion of agreement on a turnover.

23. It's not at all clear that the White House will actually cooperate..
Edited on Mon Nov-03-03 10:31 AM by TahitiNut
'However, a White House spokesman refused to confirm the senator's statement. "We have had productive conversations about ways we can work with and assist the committee," Deputy Press Secretary Trent Duffy told reporters in Crawford, Texas.'

While Senator Roberts is channeling Pollyanna, the White House is still using weasel words like "spirit of cooperation."

Like Rockefeller, I'll begin to believe it when I see it. Even then, I'm dubious the disclosure will be complete. What'll be kept hidden?
