U.S. Post-War Glow Dimmed by Growing Iraqi Violence

CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - The triumphal post-war glow in which President Bush (news - web sites) once taunted Iraqi militants by saying "bring them on" has faded to a grim determination against a resistance growing more deadly.

"It's getting worse, in the sense that, as today ... We've seen a much more sophisticated use of improvised explosive devices against coalition forces," the top U.S. civil administrator in Iraq (news - web sites), Paul Bremer, said on CNN's "Late Edition" on Sunday.

But the Bush administration vowed that it will not retreat, and Bush continues to cite his Iraq policy as an accomplishment despite accusations of a widening "credibility gap."

Bush was at his ranch in Texas on Sunday and made no comment after a guerrilla attack on a U.S. helicopter in Iraq killed 15 soldiers.

ADDED: Read the whole article, I suspect the term "post-war glow" may be used ironically. The article is not very easy on *, brings up bring 'em on twice, mentions *s lack of reaction today, talks about *s feel good campaign, talks about the credibility gap. Rate the article too, it's at yahoo.

5. Glow?
there ain't no "glow"--all there has been is Bush talking Texas tough , encouraging "revenge" at all costs-he likes to talk
tough--it appeals to the Neanderthals who voted for him-if that causes a glow then all I have ever thought about Bush and his less than admirable intellect, is true.

11. The important phrase is "credibilty gap"
... which I think was first used by Clark in his speech to the Center for American Progress

IS THAT THE SAME AS BEING A LYING BASTARD?

12. Thank you for reading the article
I was beginning to wonder if anyone here was making it past the headline. Sad, cause I expect DUers to know better.

Yes, it's a good article and puts a lot of * actions and inactions and stupid sayings together in a small space.

19. Headlines make a huge difference to murkins.....
I picked up on the irony in this piece, yet I believe it is way too subtle for most of the murkins who grab their news from headlines...

13. This goes back to an announcement a month or two ago…
Where the press secretary…what’s his name…said that the twit wouldn’t really comment much on the Iraqi situation and would confine his speeches to friendly crowds….in other words….if we have a problem, that problem is in someone else’s lap…..hey…look…the dow jones is up big time….

16. He made no comment?
He made NO comment?

What the hell KIND of an ASSHOLE is he? What kind of SHITHEEL did those two people RAISE?

What's the matter, W? Commenting on 15 deaths not a scripted part of your "everything's going smooth in Iraq" public relations campaign? Can't wipe that smirk off your face long enough to even PRETEND compassion?? Was Karen not there to put the words in your mouth, W????

Yes W, that's quite an accomplishment. :puke:

17. Have you noticed all these articles of late that have been critical
of the Bush administration all get pretty high ratings, not the old 2.25s that you would see at the beginning of this farce?

20. The ratings are dropping now that the FRs have noticed the article
kind of like how the news of 16 dead troops has dropped way down the page. Please everyone rate important articles highly.

22. The glow is from Depleted Uranium Shells.
If the guerilla attacks drag on much longer, and I am having real fears that the "post-war glow" will be due to the beta and gamma rays that will be emanating from the toxic waste-pit that once was Baghdad.
