13. Great Headline
I like that and may use it frequently!

Or: "Progress Explodes Throughout Iraq!"

That works too.

3. Why doesn't the media focus on the bright side?
What's with all this sad frowny face news? The explosions mean progress! Thank god the adults are in charge now.

5. Why can't people see that . . .
the explosions are really just signs of desperation by the losing side?

http://edition.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/11/03/sprj.irq.main/index.html

<snip>BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A day after a U.S. Army helicopter crashed in a suspected shoot-down, killing 16 soldiers, two separate attacks were made Monday against U.S. troops in Iraq, a military spokesman said.

Three or four mortars slammed into central Baghdad on Monday evening, a coalition military spokesman told CNN.

The spokesman declined to say where the mortars struck, but the blasts, which hit shortly after 9 p.m. (1 p.m. EST), shook the ground at the Palestine Hotel, where many journalists are based.

to make the best headlines in the most favorable news cycle. Nothing that would hit the press Friday evening.

11. You guys need to realize that explosions are just another name for flowers
In this land of doublespeak we need to understand the new terminoligy. Explosions=Flowers, Deaths = Progress , Mission Accomplished = Oil Secure etc. etc.

12. That's right --
these explosions are special welcoming flowers that the Iraqis only use for special invading, oops, I mean, liberating, visitors to their country -- they're quite exceptional evolutionary specimens. They're brilliant red and orange, with an aura some have likened to smoke and a astringent smell that botanists says is reminiscent of gunpowder mixed with a faint whisper of blood and guts. The petals remind some of human body parts. They only flower every fifty years or so, when Westerners come in great numbers.

15. I don't know that mirth is the appropriate response at this...
....time.
It sounds like more of our guys are catching hell in this goddamn war of bush's that nobody except his band of thugs asked for.
I know it's hard to take Bush's bullshit seriously but when i hear of more explosions .... I can't help but think of another American kid coming home in a box ... and grieving family members....

16. Well said, MnFats
The price of this vile war is incalculable misery.

Like the sanctions before it, this war shatters lives and sacrifices innocents by the bucketload.

We should grieve for the US troops caught in this murderous dishonesty, and for the men, women and children of Iraq who are the greater victims - who never asked for this unjustifiable invasion.

Let us hope the war brings about self-examination in the US public - some spark of moral imagination, something deeper than Fox News reaction. Because without that, our government will soon be on to the next war.

17. Not mirth but mockery
There is little to do to make ourselves feel better but mock the idiocy that has gotten us into this situation.

We'll all crack if we allow ourselves to feel the desperation of people willing to kill their neighbors to kick US out,
and the ripping pain of our own neighbors getting a kid home in a box.

In case anybody missed this, the old gray whore had a story in which even they couldn't lie enough to make it upbeat:
