Kerry assails comments by Iran president questioning the Holocaust

Democratic Senator John Kerry denounced remarks by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad questioning the Holocaust and suggesting that Israel should be relocated to Austria or Germany.

"For the leader of any country to question whether the Holocaust happened and suggest Israel be moved to Europe is beyond unacceptable," the former Democratic presidential candidate said in a statement.

"If President Ahmadinejad has any doubts about the Holocaust, he should have the guts to visit Auschwitz or talk to Holocaust survivors about the horrors they can never forget."

The Iranian leader said Thursday that if Germany and Austria believed Jews were massacred during World War II, then a state of Israel should be established on their soil -- comments Kerry termed a "hateful assault" against Israel.

"President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is an extreme ideologue whose hateful attacks against our ally Israel must be condemned in the strongest possible terms all over the world," the Massachusetts Democrat said.

"This is worse than just reprehensible rhetoric from the head of the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism," said Kerry.

5. I believe the Holocaust happened....but...

I also believe the U.S. needs to start taking care of and worrying about it's own citizens FIRST and FOREMOST and BUTT THE HELL OUT of issues in the middle east!

Also, this comment below by Kerry sounds like the drumbeat of war to me...not much different than what Bush spews about "so called" terrorists-AKA himself. :puke:

Kerry: "It is a stark reminder that it's long overdue for the community of nations to take strong and decisive steps to make Iran cease its support for terrorism."

9. Iranian president denies Holocaust and taunts Europe
President Mahmoud Amadinejad of Iran provoked fresh anger yesterday when he denied that the Holocaust took place and mockingly called for a Jewish state to be set up in Europe.

.......

He said: "Some European countries insist on saying that Hitler killed millions of innocent Jews in furnaces and they insist on it to the extent that if anyone proves something contrary to that they condemn that person and throw them in jail.

"Although we don't accept this claim, if we suppose it is true, our question for the Europeans is: is the killing of innocent Jewish people by Hitler the reason for their support to the occupiers of Jerusalem?

"If the Europeans are honest they should give some of their provinces in Europe -like in Germany, Austria or other countries - to the Zionists and the Zionists can establish their state in Europe.

"You offer part of Europe and we will support it."

Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 01:52 PM by autorank
I'm all in favor of a Manhattan Project like effort to develop an absolute alternative to oil in the next two years. Then we could have nothing whatsoever to do with assholes like this and just let the region stand alone, see how they support themselves, check out what happens. What does Iran produce that anyone in their right mind cares about. Nothing but oil and hate!

12. Yeah, and if we just hadn't destroyed Iranian democracy in 1953,
toppled their highly popular, democratically elected president, and foisted the torture-loving "Shah" upon them, maybe they'd have more sense.

Come on, Autorank! Be fair! Bush put them in "the Axis Evil," and has been saber rattling at them ever since he began the slaughter of tens of thousands of Iraqis, and the torture of many others, with impunity. Invasion of Iran is part of the Neo-Cons PNAC plan, and, every day, a new threat is issued from the Bush junta. It's not surpising that the Iranian mullahs are becoming paranoid and fearful, and a little crazy, under the circumstances. Let us just pray that wisdom, sanity, generosity, and a desire for the common good arise in the Middle East and among all intersted parties, because, if it doesn't, we are looking at a potential nuclear holocaust that will destroy all life on earth.

16. There's no connection between 1953 and this.
Holocaust denial is the domain of lunatics and neo-Nazis. PNAC is crazy too, as is their plan to rule the world, but to flat out deny one of the central facts of 20th century history is plain nuts. Amadinejad is crazier than a shithouse rat.

21. I always agree with you but this is an exception.
This man has responsibility for the words that come out of his mouth. The mullahs are paranoid and fearful on their own. Without any stimulus, these people are perfectly capable of creating a nuclear holocaust all on their own.

1953 was a disaster for Iran and us. It is a shameful record. Bush does not help, not even one little bit. Denying the Holocaust and saber rattling with nuclear weapons are acts that are entirely independent of any involvement that we've had, unless, of course, the mullahs are complete lunatics.

I simply can't tolerate Holocaust deniers and enemies of free society. If the mullahs today had been around in 1953, they'd have been allied with the US to destroy the wonderful blossoming of democracy.

If they're not responsible and about to cause a nuclear disaster because of what we did to them, the logical conclusion is pre-emptive action. However, they are responsible for totally idiotic, pathetic, disgusting, vile, lies that they tell and for their stewardship of a nuclear program that they have said all along is "peaceful."

PEACE

35. How many Jews do you think were gased in camps?
There is a lot of dispute over what the real facts are and
how many were actually killed in the camps.
There is no doubt that it was some and some cases very bad
but the numbers appear to be exagerated by many for
political purposes.

The Red Cross numbers don't come close to some often used in
publicizing the Holocaust.

11. Can we please just close our borders now
and come home and not bother with these folks anymore?

Oh, I forgot. Our companies have workers all over the place.

You know, sometimes I don't much care for the global village.

But if something as huge and undeniable as the Holocaust can be denied, it goes to show you that ANYTHING can be spun. Anything at all.

He can be Imarealnutjob...it sounds similar to...(I'm not goin to bother trying to spell it).

This guy is nuts. Kerry is right overall, though I still think Iran's role in international terrorism isn't nearly as greaat as Pakistan and SA - so called US allies.

That said, the Mullahs are freaks and there is no excuse for holocaust denial. Denying reality is for theh extremely ignorant and no, US crimes against Iran in the 50s and 60s don't justify loony behavior.

38. The Holocaust was one of the most
Edited on Sat Dec-10-05 05:54 PM by socialdemocrat1981
-if not the most-shameful, horrific and barbaric episodes in history and the pain, suffering and torment of what the people affected had to go through should never be downplayed in the way that it has been by hateful ideologues. Disagree with Israel's policies all you want but don't you ever try to excuse genocide and barbarism, Mr.Ahmadinejad

May your term in office be mercifully short and may your legacy be a miserable one and your name a joke for generations to come.
