3. with the deficits we have today more handouts to the rich!!??
and how have their tax cuts helped revive the economy? Most of Bush's term we've had sluggish growth. We had a nice spike in employment mainly due to holiday seasonal employment.

House Passes Tax Cut Retaining Lower Rates
By MARY DALRYMPLE, AP Tax Writer 15 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The House voted Thursday to preserve tax cuts for investors through the rest of the decade, safeguarding the centerpiece of the Republican tax agenda in a $56 billion package of tax breaks.

The bill, passed 234-197 along mostly party lines, would keep the 15 percent top tax rate for capital gains and dividends in place in 2009 and 2010, two years after their scheduled disappearance at the end of 2008.
.....

Democrats disagreed and said the tax cuts for investment income, and much of the GOP's economic agenda, exacerbated budget deficits and ignored average workers.

"The poor suffer. The rich benefit. The middle class is paying the bill," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif........

5. Which reps crossed party lines?
We have to give credit to those Republicans who were brave enough to cross teir intimidating "leadership" and shame those Dems who caved to lobbyists lining their pockets.

10. Doesn't really matter
Those on either side who crossed over knew that the bill had enough votes to pass. The only time I hold Democrats to task for their votes is when their vote would have made a difference.

I was surprised to see one of my senators (Cantwell) on the list of Dems who voted with the Republicans, and I will follow up.

6. When our economy eventually collapses...
under the weight of $8 trillion in debt (or however high it eventually gets), I hope everybody remembers the names of all the Congressmen who abdicated their responsibility to prevent this disaster.

13. It's more than sad...
People who support the Republican agenda, unless they are extremely wealthy, are supporting legislation which is suicidal for them. How on earth the Cons get away with claiming to be the party of "values" and "morals", is something I can never understand. Isn't it immoral to take from the poor to give to the rich? Isn't it immoral to burden our children and grandchildren with crushing debt? Isn't it immoral to prevent the working poor, and the just plain poor, from having health coverage?

By any standard, secular or religious, the Republican Party is the one who screws over everybody but a chosen few, yet some people will STILL vote for them, in a misguided attempt to prevent gay marriage, or abortion rights, or the right of every citizen to own fully automatic weapons, which are no good for hunting. Choosing a candidate based on hate is certainly not a moral, or Christian thing to do, but these idiots do it anyway. I just wish the conservatives would get over their obsession with controlling people's sexuality, and women's reproductive rights, and instead become aware of the gross inequalities that are becoming an entrenched part of everyday life in America now.

11. Everybody loses under this bill.
“Everybody loses under this bill. Everybody, that is, except the top one-fifth of 1 percent,” said Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga. “Some might call them the super rich. Apparently, the majority calls them donors.”
