Update:

At least four people were killed and several others wounded in an explosion in a Beirut suburb on Monday, witnesses said.

The explosion occurred in the Mekalis area, a Christian eastern suburb that lies a few kilometers from the headquarters of the United Nations team investigating the assassination of former prime minister Rafik Hariri in February.

Police said that the explosion was likely caused by a car bomb.

Several cars were set ablaze and nearby shops and buildings suffered some damage. Police and soldiers cordoned off the area as rescue workers ferried casualties to hospitals.
