Feingold won't rule out Alito filibuster
http://www.timesleader.com/mld/timesleader/news/politics/13400334.htm

WASHINGTON - Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold said Tuesday he won't rule out a filibuster of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, although he said no one in his party is actively planning to use the tactic.

"Certainly nobody I know is," said the Wisconsin senator, who is considered a possible Democratic presidential nominee in 2008. "But I'm not going to take it off the table. It's my right as a senator and it's an important right."

Democratic Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., also called for legislation to force Supreme Court nominees to give Congress three years' worth of their tax records after the White House refused to provide Alito's tax records.

"The American people have a right to know that nominees for the highest court, including Judge Alito, have faithfully complied with the most basic of federal requirements: filing timely and honest tax returns every year," said Baucus, the ranking Democrat on the Finance Committee.

2. at this point i'd rule out NOT filibustering alito
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 08:36 PM by unblock
i'm amazed they're even thinking about NOT filibustering him.

just on principle alone. you CANNOT let a nominee from a radical right wing president get quashed by a group of radical right wing supporters because she ISN'T RIGHT WING ENOUGH and then idly sit by and let the replacement sail through.

F*CK THAT NOISE!!

FALITOBUSTER!!!

3. If Feingold does this, he's the man for '08
We need someone with spine. I was dissapointed he voted for Roberts but a filibuster would make up for that. He voted nay on bankruptcy bill and CAFTA. He is da man!

Bill Nelson of Florida should switch to the repukes. He votes with them on pretty much EVERYTHING! :puke:

Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 10:14 PM by AndyTiedye
I'd like to see the rest of the Dems rule a Filibuster IN!

Those who don't should expect a coathanger in their stocking for Xmas.

6. Support Feingold's Filibuster: Tell Your Senators What You Think
If this filibuster holds, Congress could vote to temporarily extend the Patriot Act as it stands—allowing time for a new, better version that addresses the big problems in the law. This would be a huge victory for those of us who believe that liberty is non-negotiable.

The tide is turning in Congress. Leaders in Washington are beginning to demand accountability from the Bush administration on everything from Iraq to the use of torture. Now it looks like President Bush's plan to pass a new and more dangerous version of the Patriot Act is also in trouble.

And tell your friends, too. We only have two days.
