Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) to reverse stance on hate crimes against gays
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 02:34 AM by Thom Little
Sen. George Allen, R-Va., after coming under fire from some social conservatives for a 2004 vote, plans to reverse course next time and oppose making hate crimes against gay people a federal offense.

"When it comes before the Senate again, he will vote against adding sexual orientation to federal hate-crimes statutes," Mike Thomas, Allen's state director, said yesterday. In 2004, Allen voted the opposite way on an amendment in the Senate. "I wouldn't define it as a flip-flop," Thomas added.

Joe Glover, president of the Virginia-based Family Policy Network, was among those who pressed for a change. He told The Washington Times after Allen's 2004 vote that Allen "can count on us to expose him as a conservative fraud."

Allen is preparing to seek re-election to the Senate next year and may run for president in 2008.

"I think George Allen is taking note that you must first shore up your conservative base in the GOP if you want to win in Virginia," Glover said yesterday.

19. Let's also not forget "imbecile"
This boy might even be able to lose a game of tick tack toe with Junior.

Circuitry needn't be all that complex for someone to function properly as an adult, but this guy's a slobbering nincompoop. Lest we forget, he's also an asshole in the service of assholes.

What an embarrassment.

21. He seems more like another Dubya to me...
They're both named George, they like to gallivant around in faux-cowboy attire, and they're both dumb as a rock. Perfect GOP material if there ever was.

13. I wonder if this has anything to do with the Warner vs. Allen poll
Showing that Warner would win Virginia if they faced each other in a presidential contest. Though I'm not sure it will help Allen to move farther to the right because of the changing demographics in this state. Hasn't helped the last two Republican gubernatorial candidates.

14. More like -dumb ass Allen read the memo wrong
he didn't understand what he was voting on or how he was supposed to vote.

Trust me this isn't that much of a reach, or so I am told.

18. Again the true face of the GOP,
if you want to beat up or kill gays you don't have to worry about the feds. This makes conservative gays look like kapos. And extremely foolish to boot. Watch Allen do the limbo for the pig-troll base. Undulate asshole, undulate.

20. Perhaps Allen should sponsor a special tax-break for gay bashers.
Maybe that would win back his right-wing friends. Why stop with backpedaling from supporting hate-crime legislation? Hell, why not really make it clear by giving a good-old Republican sponsored taxbreak for gaybashers.

22. Allen continues the proud tradition of William L. Scott
GOP hack William L. Scott was a Senator from Virginia from '73 to '79. His most notable accomplishment was being named as the "Stupidest Senator" by a national magazine whose name I no longer recall. A reporter once walked into Scott's office unannounced and discovered the great man diligently polishing rust off some paper clips he'd found.

23. "I wouldn't define it as a flip flop," said Allen's asshole flunky...
..."because only Democrats flip-flop. We, on the other hand, constantly evaluate changing situations and adjust our views accordingly. We thought them gays would finally get over this fad of being gay, but they haven't, so it's time we took it seriously and looked the other way when they get their asses beat. They don't understand anything else."

I'm actually madder at Thomas than I am at Allen right now. At least I expected this bullshit from a Repug senator, but man, listening to a flunky try to slip one past the goalie offends the living shit out of me.
