President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) said on Sunday he was looking forward to talking with US Secretary of State Colin Powell during his visit to Panama to attend the Central American country's centenary celebrations.

Chen made the remarks during a tea party with a group of Taiwanese reporters covering his overseas tour. He arrived in Panama earlier in the day after a two-day stop in New York.

Powell will head a delegation to attend Panama's centennial on behalf of US President George W. Bush, and Chen said he hopes to have courtesy chats with Powell and high-ranking officials of other countries.

This makes LBN time stamp but I believe it's the first time ever a Taiwan leader, (Let alone the President), has been allowed to meet anyone higher than Water Boy. And to meet United States Sec. of State, something's going on!?!

1. Powell Meets Taiwan President in Panama
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 09:52 AM by dArKeR
PANAMA CITY, PANAMA -- Secretary of State Colin Powell shook hands and exchanged pleasantries Monday with Taiwan's president during a luncheon celebrating the 100th anniversary of Panamanian independence.

Powell is believed to be the highest-ranking U.S. official to speak with a Taiwanese president since the United States broke relations with Taiwan in 1979.

Panama is one of a number of countries that recognize Taiwan, which China considers to be a renegade province. Taiwan and China split at the end of a civil war in 1949. China strongly objects to any gesture that enhances the international legitimacy of the Taiwanese government.

http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/world/wire/sns-ap-powell-panama,0,4726012.story?coll=sns-ap-world-headlines

As usually AP is re-vommitting a false script of facts of history. Taiwan was never a part of China. Taiwan was invaded in 1949 at that time thousands of Taiwanese established Government, religous, and educators were executed. At that time Chiang Kai Shek seized control of an independent country, Formosa, and renamed it Taiwan. The terror for the Taiwanese began in 1949.

There was no communication between the Chinese CKS and the Taiwanese because the languages are as different as English and Spanish. And the last Taiwanese who immigrated to Taiwan came from Japan, PI, Tibet, Mongolia, and the various warlord areas in what is called China.

But hey, if the Media Whores like CNN's Mike Chinoy say it often enough is becomes the Americans' history of the world.

Liu Yan Chun grew up in Taiwan firmly believing that her family would someday go back to mainland China. It took most of her life to realize that there would be no triumphant return, as envisioned by the Nationalists when they retreated (Edit: this word should be INVADED Formosa which they renamed to Taiwan.) to Taiwan after defeat by the Chinese Communists in 1949. It took her longer still to realize that she had no desire to return.

Assassination Attempt
Chen's wife, you know, was at a time an even more strident crusader than he was for the rights of the Taiwanese and the DPP. In 1985 she was rammed over three times by a truck and was crippled, and the driver was never found despite the fact that there were witnesses. Most Taiwanese believe _ that it was a botched KMT assassination attempt. And Chen has to go home every night and see her sitting in a wheelchair because of it. It's not an easy thing to shake.

Accident or assassination attempt?

One account claims the driver, described in press reports at the time as a "simple peasant with a steady job and a fixed residence, Chang Jung-tsai" was driving an "illegally assembled truck" down the narrow street where Mrs. Chen was standing.

Witnesses said Chang purposefully hit Mrs. Chen. They insisted that the driver reportedly exclaimed "Oh, she's not dead yet" before backing up and running over her again to ensure maximum injury if not death.

The ‘New Taiwan Person’
Centuries ago, the island had an aboriginal culture of Malay and Polynesian descent. In the 17th century, the Dutch and Portuguese had colonies here, and the imported Chinese laborers — all men — intermarried with locals, forming the basis of the majority of today’s population. According this version of history, it was only in 1887 that China declared Taiwan a part of its territory in an effort to stem Japanese expansionism, say independence activists. But when that failed, China ceded Taiwan to Japan in perpetuity.
The Japanese held Taiwan for 50 years, until their defeat in World War II. In the years immediately after, Allied Forces backed Chiang Kai-shek’s temporary occupation of Taiwan. But according to pro-independence legal experts, the Nationalists never had a legal basis to stay.
“In 1949, Taiwan did not “split off from China”, but was occupied by the losing side in the Chinese Civil War,” according to a 1999 white paper endorsed by 18 overseas Taiwanese associations.

Soong, who is a mainland pig part of Chang's butchers, son of Soong a Powerful mainland China family like Chang's, ran for President in 2000, he lost thank goodness. But it was uncovered with official records that he received $20 Mil plus from the Gua Ming Dong (KMT) political party. This techically wasn't a crime because it was the party's money and not TW government money. But in fact the party stole it from the government, (everyone in TW accepts that). ('We are Chinese' I've heard as a reason thousands of times.) They traced at least 7 homes in Calf. purchased, by cash I believe, under Soong's son's name. Here's another ringer. Every child of every KMT offical is an American citizen. I hate Soong. I hate Lien who is the new KMT party chairman. These people are evil prejudice bastards who to this day treat Taiwanese as second class slaves in the country that was theirs. I'm registered some names, kmtpigs, soonglienpigs... for the upcoming election in 2004. I'll post were I make the sites.

So long and good riddance
"Of the dead say nothing but good," Plutarch advises. The problem is that in the case of Soong Mayling (ëvî¸Íî), also fawningly known as "Madame Chiang Kai-shek," there isn't any good to be said. Many obiturists have remarked that she was the most famous Chinese woman of the 20th century. What hasn't been said is that she was also perhaps the most evil woman to wield any kind of power during that bleak 100 years and that her influence on almost anything she touched was corrupting and malign.

2. Chen meets Powell at Panama's centennial bash
Republic of China President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) had a historic encounter with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell Monday at Panama's centennial celebrations.

R.O.C. Minister of Foreign Affairs Eugene Chien (簡又新), who is accompanying Chen on his current overseas tour, said Chen and Powell shook hands and exchanged pleasantries on two separate occasions while celebrating the 100th anniversary of Panamanian independence.

Powell was the highest-ranking U.S. official known to have spoken with an R.O.C. president since the United States switched diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing in 1979.

President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) was given red-carpet treatment on his arrival in Alaska yesterday as his new-found freedom in the US continued.

After flying from Panama, where he attended the country's 100th anniversary celebrations, Chen was greeted in Anchorage by Taiwan's representative to the US, Chen Chien-jen (程建人), American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Chairwoman Therese Shaheen, Alaska Governor Frank Murkowski, Alaskan House Speaker Pete Kott and overseas Taiwanese representatives.

Murkowski arranged for Chen to give a public speech on his arrival, an unusual privilege for a visiting Taiwanese president on a stopover visit in the US.

5. Sadly Taiwan would send troops to Iraq because it would be their only
chance to officially cooperate with the world.

China is really a dirty scum sucking regime. 1000 times worse then anything Saddam's government ever did. So why do we have so many American factories in China? Why do we trade so much with China?

6. Chen's overseas trip hailed by political pundits
The success of President Chen Shui-bian's (陳水扁) diplomatic trip to Panama and stopover in New York has won him support from the international society for "hastening a new constitution by the national referendum" as well as proving the concrete partnership between his government and the George W. Bush administration, political observers said.

More importantly, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) also stressed that the foreign tour provided a turning point in Taiwan's presidential election campaign, giving Chen the lead over his opponent, the Chinese Nationalist Party's (KMT) Lien Chan (連戰).

"President Chen has proved that his proposal to draw up a new constitution is not just a domestic campaign strategy, but is justified by the international society," senior political columnist Hu Wen-huei. (胡文輝) said.
