Soldiers deploy on standby as constitutional crisis looms in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines: A constitutional crisis is looming in the Philippines over attempts to impeach the country's top judge, Chief Justice Hilario Davide.

With tensions running high, hundreds of soldiers have been deployed on standby at the main military camp in Manila.

The power struggle between the government's legislative and judicial branches is bound to have serious repercussions regardless of the way the current stand-off is resolved.
