Government awards Tripp almost $600,000
Gives her outstanding performance evaluations
Tuesday, November 4, 2003 Posted: 0427 GMT (12:27 PM HKT

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The federal government Monday announced it is paying Linda Tripp and her attorneys $595,000 to settle allegations that the Department of Defense violated her privacy rights when confidential information about her was disclosed during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

In addition, the government agreed to retroactively give Tripp three annual outstanding performance evaluations for her work at the Department of Defense, increasing the value of her retirement.

Tripp sued the government when Pentagon officials leaked information from the government background investigation about her, which included the fact that she was arrested as a juvenile in a case involving drinking alcohol; she was never charged.

Tripp became widely known as the woman who taped conversations with Monica Lewinsky to document the White House intern's secret relationship with then-President Bill Clinton. Her disclosure of the tapes helped pave the way for Clinton's impeachment.

4. Oh the blatant irony...
Linda Tripp wins over a half a million dollars for her "privacy rights" being violated, when all this started with Linda Tripp violating Monica Lewinski's "privacy rights".

What a world, what a world!!!

6. Tripp should have been fired for lying on her federal job application!
Everyone that lies, or fails to disclose important information on their federal job application, is immediately removed from the position. If the job requires a security clearance, as Tripp's job certainly required, she would have been escorted out of the building by armed guards. Why is this bitch treated differently?

7. " fails to disclose important information"
By law, an arrest that does not result in plea or conviction does not have to be disclosed. That's true even for the highest security clearances UNLESS the arrest was for violating trust (eg embezzlement, but not burglary). If it was a 'trust' arrest, that's evaluated per case.

8. Not quite!
They have tightened security procedures quite a bit, and this was long before 9-11. The Pentagon under Cheney did tighten security clearance procedures and put them on a need to know basis, downgrading the security classifications of hundreds of DOD employees. If you had a DUI arrest, you better report it, they will find out.

Tripp's arrest for shoplifting was a good marker as to her true character, as evidenced by this outrageous settlement!
